I understand the extra fee for a "private" gathering, but to have a time limit on the shared restaurant is weird to me.

This seems pretty typical to me too.

We're getting married at Moon Palace Cancun on April 8, 2011!

One of the reasons AI resorts will limit the time there is because of the "room capacity vs dining capacity" ratio. They need to make sure there is always enought dining space at peak times without long lines, and enough restaurant variety to keep everyones tastebuds entertained for a week!

If you have ever visited an AI that got this "formula" wrong, you will consistently be waiting in a line around meal times. I once visited a 3* in Mazatlan that had the same bland food every day for a week in the only restaurant. I vowed to never go 3* again!
