Riu Palace Cabo-FRUSTRATED Bride!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and would love some feedback with some former brides who have held weddings at the RIU Palace Cabo. My problem is the communication, or lack of, with the wedding coordinator at the resort. We are having our wedding in Nov with about 65+ guests. I becoming so frustrated because the WC takes at least 7 days to respond to any email and when she does it contains one answer to to 7 questions. This has been going on for 4 months now and all they ever say is wait until 2 months and then we will start talking...ughhhhh!!! I cant wait til 2 months because there are so many things that I need to know. Has anyone else dealt with this? If so, does it get better?? I am so close to just canceling the wedding at the RIU and having it somewhere else, but the guest are all staying tehre and we made sure everyone stays there due to there 80% policy.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this dealing with RIU?

Hi micsd.

Ive never had a wedding in Cabo but am in the process of planning like you. I know from others that communication can be an issue in Mexico, but I also know that working with WC associated with Hotels usually turns out alright. After all they are associated with the hotel. What you might try doing is voicing your concern to another member of staff at the RIU after you do so to your own WC. Most times there are other WC at hotels. I would also try calling. You can simply say you arent happy with your service. Most places and people will then take some action. It is important though to let your own WC know before hand. Perhaps he/she has no idea how concerned you are at his/her abilities or inabilities. Do it in a polite way of course.

Also it would be helpful if you could provide the name of your WC so that others can identify if the same WC has repeat problems.

Good luck!

Hey,

I'm getting married In Oct at the Riu Santa Fe it's right beside the Palace... Is your wedding coordinator by any chance Nelly Diaz? Because I have been dealing with her from day one and she has been nothing but ignorant and is extremely rude. They are very unorganized and really not clear of what they want from the bride and groom. I have had so many problems with my paper work that needs to be submitted. If she is not being helpful call and talk to a manager or have your travel agency deal with them directly... I had to do that and they got somethings corrected. Its kinda scary when you have 65 plus people coming and no one to help you.... I feel your pain.. I'll let you know what she's like....

I, luckily, have not had to deal with the WC at the RIU Palace.  My fiance an I chose a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings.  All of my communication has been with the travel agent.  It does take a while to get some answers because the travel agent is waiting to hear from the WC, but I'm also still about 9 months out from my wedidng date, so nothing is urgent right now.  As a matter of fact, I just received an update email from my travel agent today letting me know that she's still working on my questions, but the WC "has been out" (no other details here). My travel agent asked me to put together a list of everything that I wanted to be included at my wedding and we could then sit down and work things out with the WC when it gets closer to the wedding.  I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time, but I'm sure your wedding will be absolutely wonderful! Best of luck and keep us updated!

I would recommend NOT cancelling. From reading and hearing others reviews, it seems like once you get there most of the details will be finalized.  Just make sure you bring a copy of all email correspondence with you. I know a lot of DW brides are frustrated with the lack of communication but then once they get to the resort, they realize the WC's are very busy with the weddings going on all week.  Take a deep breath ...I know it's hard to tell yourself but everything will be OK once you get down there

Hola KSPrincess,

Normally the WC at the hotels spend most of their time attending weddings on site, around 4 or 5 weddings per week. Please be patient. I suggest to organice with her a conference call with no limit time when she tells you, so you can ask her all your doubts and after that make decisions and confirm them to your WC by e-mail.

If you want to search on vendors, you can visit the website www.loscabosweddingvendors.com and confirm to your WC who to hire for your special day.

Hope you find this website helpful.

Regards!

  • 4 weeks later...

I was just wondering if you ever ended up hearing from the WC??

I am too a Riu Palace Cabo bride getting married 11/9/10 and have been trying to get a hold of the WC for the last 10 days and have not had a response...I  actually haven't had any communication w/ anyone at The Riu since March. I was waiting closer to the wedding date like they said to do and contact them about the smaller details, but now it's 5 weeks away and I haven't gotten ANY response and I have some questions and need to upgrade my package to Caprice?

I'm actually not even sure who the WC is now, it was Daniella when I booked the place, but it sounds like that has changed?  Anybody got a response lately?  Is the email still weddings.loscabos@riu.com ? censored.gif

Hi Girls,

I just recenlty got married there on July 22,2010. The new WC is Monse....yes she does take a bit to get back to you with emails and she doesn't give alot of info in her emails....but I will tell you once you get there she's absoutly amazing. She's always busy that why I don't think she puts a lot of time into email..I know frustrating...but I assure you once your there she gives you her undivided attention, anything you ask of her she makes sure its done the way you tell her. If any of you have any questions that I can help with please let me know.

Good evening ladies....

My partner and I are dealing with the same issues, but are dealing with a woman named Kai Lara.  She told us the same thing to wait until 2 months out and then she will start to plan stuff for our wedding.  I don't get it?  How do you pick out a dinner menu only 2 months prior?  That seems ridiculous to me!  We have had the same lack of communication, no sense of urgency and our travel agent isn't any help whatsoever.  Part of me is glad to hear other people are having issues just because I was getting paranoid because we are a  same sex couple, but it looks like they don't care about all brides equally!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
