Riu Ocho Rios Reception Location Ideas?

Recommended Posts

I just called ROR today and talked to the MICE groups general manager his name is Michael Johnson. He was soooo nice and extreemly helpful! He would be the best person to talk to. I plan on having my dinner semi private at the steak house restaurant that over looks the sea, then we will go to the beach for a private dance and drinks. It only costs $15pp and the dinner will be free as long as the number of guests is under 50. Anything over 50 you have to have a private dinner at $55pp.

Good luck with everything!

This is all very helpful information.  I am getting married on August 13 2011 at Riu Ocho Rios and I have so many anxieties of trying to plan all of the details without ever being there.  Please keep me posted on anything else you find about other reception ideas or pricing that they may offer.

Good luck with your planning!!!wink.gif

I am getting married at ROR in a week, and I just flipped my lid on the wedding coordinaters there. I was trying to get answers ans all I got was "no problem man , we will talk about that when you are down there"......that was not cutting it so I raised hell and got answers.

My wedding group is 69 people, they offered us a semi private dinner at the Mamme Bay resteraunt, but we could not have our dj and reception in the same place. If you want to have your dinner/dj/dancing all at the same place you have 2 choices

1. Private diner at Plantation resteraunt which is $1000 extra for 4 hours, still have to pay $10 pp for the bartender

2. Private dinner poolside which is $55 per person includes dinner and bartender

It was a must for us to have the dinner/dancing at the same place. We wanted to have a somewhat traditional reception where we get introduced, first dance and all that stuff.

I have been dealing with these fools for a while now and if I can give any advise it would be.

1. The squeaky wheel gets the oil

2. Be precise in the question's you want answers to, ask question's that can be answered in a yes or no.

3. Don't even bother trying to get ahold of them until 2 month's before your wedding, at that time you will recieve an e mail with location options, vendor choices. Unless you do chosse the private or poolside reception then you can reserve that ahead of time.

We used Tia Flora for our flowers and they get back to you right away.....the best thing to do is send them pictures of what you want.

We are using a diferent DJ that I actually found on Facebook and he seems to be legit, he will meet with you befor ethe ceremony and you can e mail him song lists and whatnot.

I hope this helps everyone because I have alot of grey hair to show for this info

PolorI69 -  Thanks for the advice.  I'm getting married there in 3 months and have emailed the WC's there with no reply.  I'm getting a bit anxious because there are certain things that I want dealt with before I get there.  Can give me the DJ info you found on Facebook and why have you chosen him instead of the resort DJ?  I'm looking forward to reading your review when you get back!  Wish you the best!

I chose him because there were alot of good reviews on his facebook page, I spoke with him and he seems professional and runs a legit buisness. you can send him your song list ahead of time....you know...all the things that SHOULD happen. I am trying to get him approved as a vendor for the Riu Ocho Rios, he curently does weddings at Riu Montego Bay amoung other resorts and corporate events

Hi!

Thanks for all the great info! I have called there once and understand your frustration. I will definitly use your suggestion for flowers as well. Although we are having Destination Weddings, its still nice to plan things. I know I am going to be dealing with the same thing, but you have given me more information than I know I could get out of them.

I wish you the very best at your Wedding. I am sure it will be beautiful and I would love to see pictures. Thank you again on behalf of all of us trying to plan at this resort. You have made our lives easier so I really appreciate your input.

Thanks again, good luck, and all the best for you two!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
