Hello!

My fiance and I will be getting married on 5/21/2011 in Turks & Caicos.  I will be sending out our STD magnets next week along w/ a flyer that my TA will be creating w/ all the resort details.  Do I still need to send out formal invitations?  The ONLY reason I can think to send them is to let our guests know where we'll be registered.  However, we are not going to register by the time the STD and flyers go out, so I don't know if I should include that info on there.  Any suggestions???

Thanks!

I don't really have any advice... I'm in the same exact predicament. I will put all the info on our website, but still feel more people will see it on an invitation. We are having an at home cookout style reception; so I might send out informal invites with registry info??

I think I might have figured out what I am going to do.  I am going to go ahead and send out our STD magnets w/ the flyer containing the resort info.  We're getting our engagement pics done in October, and my photographer can create invitations using our pics, so we'll just send those out as invites and include on there where we're registered at...

Good luck in your planning!!  :-)

I am having this problem!!

I just got my save the dates to mail and I have made a web site. I feel like there is no reason to send formal invitations because everyone will already have all the information. I feel like most people that want to come do already and I havent even sent the save the dates yet (guess I should have done it sooner, oh well). My mom wants me to send save the dates and/or invites to extended family that I barely know because she thinks its proper etiquette, but the whole point of a destination wedding to me was to keep it small and simple and not have to worry about inviting those kind of people.

Then there is the at home reception...

We are just doing a casual at home reception at a bar near our house. I dont know if I should do separate invites for that. And if so am I obligated to send those to my whole big extended family? Or is it ok to keep it on the smaller side too with family and friends that couldnt make it to our Mexico wedding? So stressful!

I think sending invites are a personal choice and depends also on the people you are inviting.   If they are tech savy people I say just do the STD and website.   However if they are not Tech Savy and need constant reminder i think an invite will be needed.  You don't have to do anything to fancy just like a follow up invite.

I did save the date magnets, website and invites.  Most of our guests are from outside the US (Taiwan, South America, France) and the others lack memory and I love  my invites.

So i suggest just do what you want and not what people expect you to do.  Good Luck Happy planning : )

I was talking about invitations and STDs the other day, and the fiance was like why bother with invitations when the STDs have all the info. So I am thinking of just doing invitations, and doing them a lot earlier than normal.

People will need to know all the resort info anyway, so we are just going to send them out once we set a date, which will hopefully be this week, fingers crossed.

I can't wait to get started on all the DIY projects I want to do, This forum has really inspired my creative side.

Thanks ladies.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
