Welcome!  And congratulations on choosing your resort -- that's the hardest part in my opinion!!

The Maya is beautiful, your guests will love it.  We have about half of our guests staying at there.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.  Your Wedding corrdinators are wonderful, Lily and Mayra work so hard and always respond to email in a day or two.  One tip I can give is when I was there for our site visit, I wanted to get the WC's a little gift for all their help thus far, so I just wrote them a card with some cash. and they were very very appreciative.

Hi Lindobride14,

If you donâ€t mind me asking where are the other half of your guests staying?

Also, I am not sure who Lily and Mayra are, my travel agent told me to contact Rayna. I e-mailed her and left a message for Rayna, but unfortunately no response. Today I did leave a message for either Lily or Mayra (hoping that someone will return my call).

I wanted to know if you are aware of the options for the ceremony and the reception at Maya. I read in previous posts that the beach area's space is not that big, but how small is it really? Also do you know if the ceremony/reception could be held by the pool?

Have you gotten any price lists for the wedding packages yet?

Any information you could spare would be greatly appreciated.

Reyna is who you must pay your deposit to to book your wedding. Once you have paid the deposit to Reyna she will then turn you over to your resorts specific wedding coordinators. If she's not responding I'd suggest buying a calling card and calling her. She does speak English.

About half of our guests are staying at the Lindo and half at the Maya. We actually originally booked our wedding at the Lindo. we sent out info on the Lindo in our save the dates so that is why a lot of our guests booked there. Some chose to upgrade and stay at the Maya because the rooms are a lot more modern and nicer in my opinion since their standard room is a jr suite.

We actually are now having our reception at the Del Mar because after we booked with the Lindo I realized I wasn't crazy about any of their reception venues. we liked the Del Mar's open air restaurant best of all the available reception venues in the whole Iberostar complex, which is surprising because the Del Mar and Beach hotels are the least expensive.

At the Maya you have the same reception options as the lindo: the Cajun restaurant at the Lindo(not open air or near the pool), on the beach, or at the gazebo/shopping center area. If you have over 70 guests they will consider letting you have your reception at the Mexican restaurant near the pool.

If you have it on the beach or gazebo area u must do a buffet style dinner.

In my humble opinion the best option for us was to book our wedding through Del Mar because it had the best reception venue. But we are staying at the Lindo/Maya because we liked the rooms/food better there . Another perk of having your wedding at the Del Mar is that guests can choose to stay at the less expensive Del Mar and Beach hotels without having to purchase a guest pass to attend your wedding.

Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions. I'm sure I just confused you more !

I actually bought a calling card and have been calling for a few days now. No response as of yet. I called my travel agent and she promised that she will make sure that Reyna will get back to me one way or another. I am a bit anxious since we are only about 7 months away from the (wanted) wedding date, so I really would like to get things rolling.

I am also offering my guests the option of staying at either Maya or Lindo. But my fiancé and I will be staying at Grand. I wish I could have the wedding at Grand but some of my guests may be bring children (my sister will be bring my niece for sure) and since its an adults only resort, they will not allow the wedding there. But Maya looks just a beautiful. So if I understand correctly, you cannot have the reception pool side? Why would that be, did they flat out say no, it is not possible. I know a few people that have had their weddings at other hotels and pool side was no problem. If this is true, I will be really bummed. I really wanted to have the wedding outside, kind of the whole point of a destination wedding.

Do you have any pictures of the reception/ceremony area(s)? Just so I can get an idea, for now at least.

I really appreciate all your help. And you definitely helped me...no confusion at all. Thanks again. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

These are the pictures I have saved to my computer.  I have more in an email from the wedding coordinators which I can forward to you if you want to send me your email address.

Here is the Mexican which is by the pool. Like I said you have to have 70 guests to have your wedding reception here.   I even offered to pay for 70 guests regardless of how many we had in order to secure it, and they said no.  I am not sure about having the ceremony near the pool though.

Here's the Cajun:

I honestly doubt your date will be taken so don't feel too pressed for time.  Trust me, I felt the same way, but odds are your date will be open.

I'm jealous that you're staying at the Grand! We want to stay there too, but I just felt a little hypocritical telling all my guests to book the Lindo and then turning around and staying somewhere else!

The food, service, rooms, everything is unparalled at the Grand.  I would love to get married there as well, but we have a few kids coming and the price was higher than we wanted to ask our guests to pay.

Good Luck in your planning.  I hope Reyna gets back to you!

Thanks, its nice to know that someone else felt the same way I do. For some reason I cannot open the attached pictures, something about me not having the required permissions to download attachments. My e-mail address is ochernin@verizon.net, if you could please e-mail me the pictures and the e-mails from the coordinators, I would be very thankful. BTW- do you by any chance have the 2011 price list?

Hi,

I am getting married on 4/11/11 at the Lindo.  I, like many others, am not have an AHR - so it is important for me to have a reception after the wedding that is fun and memorable for my guests as well as my fiance and I.  I am a bit worried about locations of where the reception can be at the Lindo.  Mayra has sent me pictures of the beach and gazibo options - both of which look beautiful.  You stated that they will serve dinner on the beach and at the gazebo?  It has to be buffet though?  What type of food did they offer for the buffet?  Also, she also sent me options for DJs.  One was from the resort, however, she sent me some others that they use as well.  Do you know anything about DJs?

Any information that you have would be helpful!!!

Welcome!  And congrats on securing your date!

I think hte gazebo area is absolutely beautiful, it's sucn a pretty area with the overhead string lights.  THe beach party looks beatiful as well,  Just be sure that you know that all the pretty lighting underneatht he tables and the pretty globe lights are an extra charge and you have to go through a lighting company :)

Yes, they DO both have to be buffet style though.  I do not have the menu, otherwise I'd send it to you.  We looked at the menu while we there meeting with Lily at our site visit.  The items I do remember were a lot of cold cuts, like salmon and various lunchmeats, cheeses, some cold salads like some kind of european potato salad, I believe.  And I can't remember much else, I'd  email Lily and Mayra and ask them to send you the buffet menu.

The DJ they have does not speak English so he cannot MC or announce you into your reception.  I'd recommend using DJ DOREMIXX or DJ Mannia.  Both are highly rated on this forum. You can do a search on their names and get a bunch of reviews.

Lindobride14,

Thank you for the information!  You stated that you changed your reception from the Lindo to the Del Mar - did you do this after you already put a deposit at the Lindo?  From what I have been readind, the Del Mar offers more of what I am looking for in terms of receptions.  Are there any semi-open air options for receptions/dinner at the Lindo?  I guess I am just very confused at what I should be asking Mayra exactly and if I change the reception venue to Del Mar - I'm worried that my guests will be bothered that they are staying at the Lindo.

Yes.  I had already paid my deposit and they were able to transfer it over to the Del Mar.

There are no open air restaurants at the Lindo, which is why we finally made the decision to switch it over, even though we had sent everyone the resort info for the Lindoin our STDs.

I take it you have already sent out formal invitations or save the dates if guest sare already booked at the Lindo?  What we did is put an update section on your website indicating that guests can stay at any of the five resorts in the Iberostar complex and still attend our wedding.  And in our formal invitations we are putting a note in an "Accommodations" insert card saying the same.

If you're worried about it being too far from your ceremony, the resort has a trolley that will transport your guests from ceremony to reception so it shouldn't be too big an issue for your guests staying at the Lindo to get to and from the Del Mar.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else.
