Wedding Costs?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

I'm getting married in September 2011 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, here exactly is the dilemma my fiance and I have. So far we have received information from different resorts such as Majestic Punta Cana, Barcelo Bavaro, RIU Punta Cana. It has turn out very difficult to understand the packages partly due to the fact that 60% of my guests are not staying at the hotel and this has turn out to be a back and forth of e-mails between the venues regarding how they can accomodate them and how much more it can cost to us.  I have tried to contact them directly but some of them don't pick up their phone. The other issue is that we are afraid because room rates are too expensive for our guests staying at the resort we choose to have our wedding would make it difficult for them to attend.  I guess what I'm trying to say is anybody out there who can help me with this.  It would be helpful if somebody who has gone through the process of booking a wedding in Punta Cana can help me to understand the packages and the extra expenses that come with it at any resort, at this point I'm desperate.  I would like to know if anybody has work with a trusted travel agency that will be able to help us to help our guests to book their flight + hotel packages. We are planning to have around 60 guests.

Thank you for helping me.

Hi!
I hear you on the confusion and frustration that planning a wedding WITH THE HOTEL (any hotel) is.
It is expensive and cumbersome.
Anyway, I wanted to recommend "La Barcaza"
I has already booked my wedding reception with the hotel (gran bahia principe bavaro) and although their WC is great to work with, the hotel just rips you off on charging for open bar and food for people. I think it is unfair because the guests are paying for food and drinks. If they charge me the same and tell me that it is for the personalized service, well, maybe they would convince me. But even though they have been great, I still had so many doubts about how it works.
I happened to read about la barcaza and all the reviews I read were great. Every post I have read both on this forum and outside is of brides and grooms who said their best decision was to have chosen la barcaza. I would recommend looking into that.
That still does not resolve the fact that your guests are going to have to pay for a day pass to enter whichever hotel you choose to have the ceremony at.

Maybe you guys can research whether a ceremony is possible at a venue outside the hotel. Or, seen as the date is still some time away, looking into a more affordable hotel where everyone can stay. After all, it is nice for everyone to hang out together at the pool, at the bar, the disco, etc.

BTW I am in the process of booking 'la barcaza' yay! I am so excited and will keep it a secret and surprise all my guests (if FI doesn't start telling people that is).

Actually, as I was reading other posts, I found this:

They claim, "Our great difference is that you and your guests can stay at any hotel and we will celebrate your wedding in the most excusive and private locations of Punta Cana keeping you and your guests in budget and your wedding being the only one of the day."

To Elizabeth Rodriguez, it is a boat that can host your wedding reception or even a tour for your guests to the coast of Punta Cana. They offer different packages. I chose 'mixed grill' wich includes open bar just national beer, sodas, juices, and rum I think. It includes desert and chicken, veggies, etc. If you want to PM me I'll send u the website b/c I don't have the info here. Well, more importantly, the pricing because the website you can find in Google.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
