Free Wedding Website vs. Wedding Website You Pay For-Which is Better?

Recommended Posts

I am looking into creating a wedding webite and I was going to look into a free site. Are there any good ones out there or is it better to just pay for one. I would like some options such as adding music to the site and RSVPing online. Are those avaiable on any free sites?

Hi,

I am using weddingwire.com and you can either add one song that replays during the whole viewing of your website or have a playlist and when your guests view a different page the song changes.  Also you can RSVP online.  The website is free and the reason I went with it is because you can delete a lot of pages that seemed unnecessary to me or add ones.  You can customize every page by changing layout, page name, add pictures, hyperlinks ect. Almost all websites had "registry" and my guy did not want that on there, i couldn't find a website other than this one where I could delete that page!  Good luck.  You can sign up for weddingwire and check out the website feature...just play around with it and see what you can and can't do. That's the best way to see if you'l like it!

We use a free one called mywedding.com and it's complete customization. You can turn on or off any page you want, so while you are working on one, you can see what it would look like but until you activate it, no one else can see it. For the beginning stages we only had our wedding date (home page), our story, and accomodations. Since then, I've added more pages, RSVP, Music requests (and you can make a 5 song playlist), FAQ, Wedding Party details, Packing lists, etc....

We also didn't have a registry for quite some time, but about 2 weeks ago I got a phone call from my parents upset that we didn't have one because our grandparents expect it! So I added a registry for them. I guess for some people it's customary. If you think you will have guests that want to be sent a registry, you might want to give them a little piece of paper in their invitations only stating where they can buy you a gift, if they choose to. Who would have known people wanted a registry?

Thanks so much for the info. I am so excited about creating the website. I have a long time before we get married, but I like to plan early. I wasn't sure if I was going to do a registry either as we already live together, but I think we are going to do a honeymoon registry.

how long until you get married? I'm on the long track as well.  I'm having fun exploring everything and planning and taking my time though!

I really dont know which is better, but I am using weddingwire. From my research and comparison, it pretty much gives you just about everything that a paid website offers. I think the only difference is that with the paid website, you get your names as the url.  Weddinwire also offers this but you have to pay extra.  I love weddingwire.  As was said before, you can definitely check out a few of these sites, paid sites have free trial periods, I tried a few before deciding on weddingwire. It is easy to use, customizable and fun!  Good luck with making your choice!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
