Legal Wedding Before Destination Wedding... =(

I really hope that you simply worded that wrong and you didn't really mean this. If not, heaven forbid that you ever need medical attention from a doctor of Mexican descent *rolls eyes*

We plan on doing the legal thing shortly before we head down to Mexico.  Not sure who will be there but I do not plan on telling anyone besides mom and sis.

For those who already did this...I was told you still sign a paper during the ceremony.  Is that true?  Does it depend on the country, resort, something else?  What does the paper say?

I'm also a nurse and it's prejudice to think that because of someones nationality they cannot stick you with a needle!  It's not rocket science!  Such a shame and I for one do not want someone as judgemental as you to poke anyone with a needle!

We decided to get married before we left only to save on time and costs.  We have not told anyone and will ask our witnesses if they can meet us out for lunch that day and surprise them with our legal ceremony.  I too don't want it to take away from our DW.  The lady marrying us here allows us and 2 witnesses, any other people we have to pay.  Stick to your plans and hopefully people will respect that it is your wedding and these are your wishes

We are calling my brother and his girlfriend (both are in our bridal party) to meet us for dinner - and their friend is able to legally marry us so we'll have him meet us there, we'll sign the papers, and it's done! I don't even want my parents knowing when it happened because our "real" date is our Cancun wedding.
I think a lot of people get married before their DW because I know at my resort in Cancun, it's required that I have a marriage certificate for the wedding to take place.

For us, it's simply a matter of time and money. We figured out the cost of translating all our docs, getting something called an apostle, time lost not having our marriage legal in this country (as soon as you are married, car insurance goes down, we can combine our health insurance, another deduction on taxes, etc) and then money spent to translate back to English it was at least $500.  I'd rather spend that money elsewhere and not stress.  Our symbolic ceremony will be very special.  I'm writing it myself and a close friend of our is performing the ceremony. At felt badly about it at first, but like everyone else, we're not making any kind of deal out of the paperwork, it's just paperwork.

We were a little ahead of the game in booking our wedding, so we decided we're going to get married on the same day, just a year ahead of time.  I just booked the marriage commisioner. Now we just need to decide if we surprise a few friends to be our witnesses or ask her to provide them.

It will be hard to keep a secret for a year, but as said earlier - its just a piece of paper and the real ceremony will be with all our family and friends.

Good luck keeping it as a secret for a year :) We're eloping in a couple of months and we've been thinking about doing that for a little while, it's driving me crazy not telling anyone what we're planning! Everytime anyone asks our plans it's just "Oh we haven't decided, we'll see", I can't imagine keeping something like that quiet for a year!! I'm hoping to do a symbolic wedding/renewal of vows at a later date, and I'd love to do it on an anniversary, as that date will be so special :) So I totally see why you're doing that :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
