Is Dreams worth the cost?

Recommended Posts

I have always dreamed of a beach wedding and Cabo seemed like the best choice.  It's ~160 per person per night at Dreams.  Other hotels that are not all-inclusive offer rooms for 200 and my friends would likely pack 4 per room.  At ~50 per person versus ~160 per person all inclusive, I'm wondering if dreams is worth asking my friends to put up so much money!  The other hotel I am considering is the Hilton.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!  Also, feedback abt the Hilton helps me too!

I"m not sure when you are traveling, but DRC is offering rooms in October for less than $200, and that is for 2ppl, not per person. That is $100 per day per person.  I don't know how you can do any better than that for a beautiful room, and all the food and drink you can consume, not to mention activities and entertainment.  Not sure what their availability is for weddings during that month tho - we are getting married 10/4 and have had the date booked for about 3 months, and had to change the date 3 times in order to get availability.

Rebecca, I am a Dreams Los Cabos bride to be.  Check out the reviews on this site from other brides who have gotten married at Dreams Los Cabos to see what their weddings looked like and hear what their experiences were.  I have yet to read a review from someone who had a bad wedding at Dreams Los Cabos.  I personally think it is worth the money.  At a non-AI, the rooms may be cheaper but don't forget to factor in all the other additional costs such as food, drinks, etc. that guests will have to pay.  3 meals a day and alcohol is easily going to be $110 per day.  Ultimately, it is up to you and what you think is best for your group.  Definitely check out  the reviews on both DLC and the Hilton before you make your decision.

Who did you book through to get these rates? Did you go directly through the hotel?

Dreams Riviera Cancun is a very different resort than Dreams Los Cabos (and on opposite coasts) so comparing rates from 2 different resorts in 2 different cities is like comparing apple to oranges.

Dreams Los Cabos is one of the more expensive resorts in cabo.  The Riu, Melias, Presidente Intercontinental are all much lower in price.

"Worth" is a funny thing.

Is Dreams Los Cabos an amazingly gorgeous hotel.  YES!!!  Will you love it, I'm pretty darn sure!

However, if it would mean more to you for more of your family and friends to attend, then perhaps you should look at another resort.

If your family and friends can afford Dreams, then it's totally worth it.  But if it means that you'll have 6 guests as opposed to 20, is that worth it to YOU?

It was worth it to me, and I wouldn't change it for anything.  Actually our friends loved it and our wedding so much that they got married there this spring, so my husband and I got to go back, yey!  We're planning on going back every other year for our anniversary. So to us it was worth it, but like others mentioned its a personal choice in the end.  I would read reviews on the different hotels/resorts in cabo and what other bride's experiences were like.

We booked through our travel agent, who was working thru Apple Groups Vacations. However, the price is just about as cheap directly thru the resort right now, as they have a super saver room for $198 per night. However, the rate does not include taxes or ground transfers.  I would suggest using a travel agent; they do all the work for you and can usually get you a better deal.

Tammy,

Yes, Yes, and Yes :)

I would not say they are 2 totally different resorts...they are both DREAMS, so experience, service, etc. should be somewhat consistent.

I posted a reply because I did not want Rebecca, or anyone else with this question, to be under the impression that Dreams is an extremely expensive resort...when we origianlly looked at pricing on their website, it was considerably more (about double)  than the price we actually ended up paying.  So, Rebecca, I really recommend working with a travel agent, because the 'published' price on the Dreams website is often far more expensive than the price you can get thru a travel agent.

Our rooms came to $1400 for two ppl for 7 nights.  That is only $100 per person per day and includes everything. I don't know how you can go wrong with that. I am sure the price will vary from location to location.  So don't let the prices on their website scare you off!

By the way, the prices on their websites (even the 'hot specials') do not include taxes and ground transfers, so bear that in mind. some of our guests thought they could get their prices a little cheaper by booking thru the resort at their special price, but by the time they added taxes and ground transfers, it was not a better price than our TA could get. Plus we get other perks for traveling as a group.

I am sure the prices are going to continue to change and perhaps even get cheaper as we approach our travel date of 10/1/10 but that is ok. We are very happy with our choice!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
