st. thomas hotel??

Hello everyone!

So I am hoping to get married in St Thomas in May 2011. I am planning on having the ceremony at the catholic cathedral on the island, and having thereception at Havana Blue. I am estimating about 20 guests.

I had origianlly been communicating with the Marriott Frenchmen's reef because they offered a very affordable group rate for my guests. However the communication has dropped off and I now cannot get ahold of anyone. I also have watched their ratings/reviews on trip advisor steadily decline over the past 2 months! They once has an approval rating in the high 70's and it is now in the 60's!!

Does anyone have any suggestions of better hotels/resorts in st. thomas? I really just want a friendly, cleanly hotel with a great beach for my guests!

Thanks everyone!!!

Hi!

I am running into the same exactttt problem! We are planning on getting married down there August 2011. The reviews on the Marriott are freaking me out as well! I started talking to the Wyndham because they also seem like a great resort as well. They are now only All Inclusive now though. Which obviously is good and bad for pricing options for your guests. The Wyndham is also located near Red Hook which I've heard is a neat lil place for nightlife restaurants etc. and the Marriott seems to be in a remote area. So its really a tough choice! How many guests are you having?

We are going down there August 25-30th to check it all out. We are staying at the Marriott but have appointments with the Marriott, Wyndham and Havana Blue!!My heart is set on Havana Blue! Are you working with Kate from Havana Blue? The open bar pricing seems ridiculousss...are u finding that too?

I can definately share all my photos and videos with you when I get back! Reviews of the places as well. Feel free to PM now  too since we have so much in common !

Good Luck on your trip! I have been so discouraged that I have had a change of heart. I think I am going to stick to the east coast and have my wedding in Nantucket.

I was working with Kate but I sent her an email and have been unable to get with her intouch for some time now too. :(

I hope that you have better luck than I did! And I am sure everything will work out.

PS. A friend of the family stayed at the Wyndham and raves about it. They highly recommend it.

I am looking into having my wedding on st. thomas too.  How are your wedding plans going?  I just started working with a wedding coordinator who seems pretty great.  I was first looking into the wyndham and I fell in love it.  the only problem I had is that the beach is really far away (down 100 or so steep stairs).  I am also looking into frenchmans reef, bolongo bay, and secret harbor.  Any advise or suggestions?  We will probably have to go down the end of august to check them out.

Whats really funny is that if St. Thomas doesnt work out, my fall back plan is on the cape.

Omg I love Nantucket! I am from the Boston area so I know the Cape pretty well! :) Yeah Our wedding should be pretty big for St Thomas..I'm hoping to only have 100! hahaha We have really large families. So the hotel needs to accommodate us and be really nice. I'm thinking the Wyndham might be a better option since its all inclusive that way once the guests get there they don't worried about spending $ too much.

Where are you looking to get married? We are looking into the ocean cliff terrace at the Marriott and Wyndham. I'm thinking for convenience I would like the ceremony at the same hotel we are all staying at.

I've definitely found that island vendors do NOT respond very well or quickly. We're having the ceremony on the St. John Terrace and then dinner at Herve downtown. The welcome party is going to be at Bolongo Bay. Havana Blue is gorgeous, and I would totally have my dinner reception there if we weren't set on dancing. The menu and bar pricing is pretty standard for the island.

There's background music at Havana Blue, but there really isn't a dance floor, and I really want to do the first dance, daddy/daughter dance, etc. I wanted to find a place where I can control the music, but still a restaurant atmosphere, so we're doing a buyout of Herve.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
