Gran Porto Real Brides - Post here!!

Recommended Posts

We did A LOT of research!! Unfortunately, we were unable to do a visit... But I have previously been to the Riviera Maya area for a friends wedding a couple of years back... She had her wedding at the Barcelo Tropical, which I believe isn't too far from the Gran Porto...it is also a great resort area!! It's is just further down the peninsula... My travel coordinator also has been to our resort and gave rave reviews for it!!  Honestly, I would say that you probably couldn't go wrong with a 4 or 5 star resort in the Riviera Maya area.. The beaches are fantastic and there is an old charm to most of the resorts....

I hope that this helped!!  I do know that the Royal across the street is their sister resort and you can find a TON of reviews and photos for it...  It is more of a luxury Resort... It's been given 5 stars vs 4.5 for the Gran Porto....  The only reason we did not opt for that resort was due to the fact that it is adults only and we have guests bringing children... But we did book the oceanfront Gran master suite, which grants us full access to the Royal and all of it's amenities if we would like to "escape" from our guests!

Good luck with your destination wedding!!!!

I doubt that you're still keeping up with this blog.... But if so, could you post a few pictures of your wedding??!! We are trying to decide on whether to do the ceremony and reception on the North Beach or Central beach location... Any advise would be GREAT!!!!

Thanks a lot! We've been to Mexico several times and love it. We got married in Jamaica only because we're both divorced and Mexico's rules are stricter on the paperwork and translation and so on. We fell in love with Jamaica completely, but I want to go back to Mexico for our vow renewal. I've looked at resorts until I'm cross eyed and I've seen so many posts here of brides that are having a tough time with added expenses and fees. The resort that just seems to have everything I want is Gran Porto Real. I looked at The Royal but the price point on it is a bit higher than what i'll ask people to pay so GPR just seemed a better fit. I love the RM area and we love the bars and restaurants in PDC too so I'm familiar with the area and all the different things to do. I just wondered why out of all the other resorts, why you picked GPR? So many brides seem to go for the other ones. I've had a hard time getting reviews on Gran Porto. I'm hoping Tammy will be able to reschedule the webinar.

We too were trying to fit the resort into ours and everyone else's budget and that's why we kept coming back to the Gran Porto.... I too saw that most other brides were choosing other resorts, but I saw all the photos and fell in love with this one... I then got with my photographer and he says he loves this resort! SO I was not disappointed in my choice!!!

Which photographer did you end up going with? I've had quotes from quite a few, plus one that I've tried several times to get in touch with and they just aren't responding. I think I've made up my mind who I'm going with, but I still have to wait for a while before I can book anything. One more hospital stay to get through and then I can move forward with plans.

Thanks! I just received the info on Dean Sanderson about 10 days ago actually so I'm definitely looking at him. His prices are a little higher than what I wanted, but we'll see.

Did you find out what the current outside vendor fee is? Has it changed from the $350 that it was? I have to admit that I'm rather nervous now about the comment that was made last week about how busy the beaches are. I'm trying to remember who made it and which forum it was in. I don't want a beach ceremony - I really like the gazebo - so I don't know if it's as much of an issue with the gazebo or not. I spent part of the weekend looking at other possible resorts just because of it. I don't mind a few people around. That's no big deal, but I really would rather not have a bunch of gawkers, and if they can't ask the old guys in the speedos to move along so they aren't part of the ceremony, then I really would rather look at another resort.

Oh Ok great!! Dean customized a package for me so that is something you may ask about to lower your costs!

I confirmed with my wedding coordinator Elsa, the outside vendor fee is still $350.00...  I do remember the post about the beach being packed... I would assume that the gazebo area would be more contained so less people would be gawking at you guys!!  My fiancee and I talked about this too, but we decided it didn't matter to us!!

I have one more PDF file, but it was too large to attach.... It has a listing of extra products and services and the costs associated... If you want that PM me an email address and I will send that to you as well!

Here is my offsite coordinator: elsa.torres@realresorts.com

I do not know how beneficial she will be... I have had some difficulties getting her to respond to me... But she has gotten better with the last few emails... I'm assuming with wedding season at it's high time, that she was prioritizing brides which weddings were coming up rather than me and my wedding a little under a year away!

Hope this information helps!

Hoping you're still coming to this site!!! Congrats on the wedding!!!!

I'm getting married at the Gran Porto 01/07/15 and just had a question regarding the outside vendor fee...

I am wanting to use an outside makeup artist... I know the outside vendor fee is $350.00 for each vendor... Are they going to charge me this even for the make up artist??? Seems like a silly question, but I really want to use his services because he does airbrush and I'm pretty sure the resort does not... I do not want to end up paying an additional $350 for a service that they can't provide me at the resort salon/spa....

Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi all, TA Wendy here.. I just wanted to throw in a rousing endorsement for The Gran Porto.. it is one of my very favorite properties for all the great things it has to offer! Just a block away from 5th Ave, and with a great beach, it is family friendly, reasonably priced and with generous size rooms throughout!

I also love that it is adjacent to it's sister property, The Royal, where those who are looking for an adults only option can stay and still have full use of the facilities at The Gran Porto.

Two of the very best choices in the area!

I work with The Royal PDC and The Gran Porto quite frequently and am happy to answer any travel questions for those considering either of these properties!

TA Wendy

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
