It's been a while since I have posted and I have less than 4 months to go.  I am starting to panic, I dont have bridesmaid dresses picked yet and only have half started my OOT bags and centerpieces! Yikes! Time to get my bum in gear!

I just have a quick question that maybe one of you lovely people can help me with becasue Elsa hasn't gotten back to me yet.  We are doing our legal wedding ceremony here at home before we leave (not at our house, but in Red Deer) and so when we are in Mexico it will be a "symbolic ceremony" but still technically our wedding. It will be the date we use as our anniversary and everything, of course.  Since it will not be a civil ceremony I was just wondering if any of you know if we have to pay the extra $600 to have a commissioner, JP or Minister present?  I have been reading in some other forums that it's not required for a symbolic ceremony as we will just be exchanging our vows, and that we could have someone (a close family friend) do the speaking of the ceremony.

I have emailed Elsa to ask her about this situation and haven't received any replies so I was wondering what your opinions are or if any of you have dealt with this situation before?

Thanks girls,

Amie

Hi MrsSmid!

If you need a hand finishing your centrepieces, let me know! I live down here in Playa Del Carmen and just got married in May. I bought 98% of the decor items for our wedding and still have everything. I could rent some stuff to you for a very affordable price if you'd like! I have lanterns, bottles, vases & mason jars for flowers, burlap & lace table runners, candles holders, and all sorts of little vintage details. You also wouldn't have to haul things to Mexico and back, which is a plus ;)

PM me if you'd like a full list with pricing and a link to all the photos. Happy planning! :D

For any past GPR brides, how was your ceremony music handled if you brought an ipod?  I had just assumed that we would give the ipod to the wedding coordinator, and as long as the music was in a playlist, that they would take care of the music.  Yesterday my WC, Alejandra, asked me if I had someone who was going to be with helping me play songs...??? I'm incredibly confused.   Have any of you had to have a guest run the ipod?

Hello Gran Porto Real brides! Congrats on your upcoming weddings! :) This post is for any brides interested in affordable decor for your big day. I posted in this thread back in August, but I thought I'd add some photos this time.

I'm a newlywed from Vancouver, Canada that lives down here in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I have quite a few decor items leftover from our wedding in May, mostly in a rustic vintage style. I've decided to rent things out to brides that don't want to lug things like vases & mason jars down here to Mexico, and have priced things quite fairly compared to the resorts' prices.

I have a lots of different types of bottles, mason jars, vases and lanterns, as well as a variety of other items like wooden signs & frames, table runners, rustic birdcages, string lighting and even a portable sound system.

If you want a Style Me Pretty or Ruffled type of wedding in Mexico without a huge price tag, I'm your gal! So far no one has had to pay an outside vendor fee at all, as they tell their WC that they have brought the decor themselves. I'm also always interested in buying items that brides bring down and would like to sell after their weddings, please send me photos of anything you'd like to sell!

If you'd like to see some photos and a price list, please send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you all the info. Also if anyone has any questions about the area, ask away! I've lived in Playa Del Carmen for two years and know the whole coast quite well. Happy planning ladies!

Here's a couple of photos of some items we used in our wedding and that are for rent, but I have lots more:

Hi. I just wondered what made you decide on this resort? Did you do a site visit? It's my first choice for next year and I was signed up for Tammy's webinar for this resort, but the Rep got called away and the webinar got cancelled. I'm not going to Mexico until later this year to be able to take an advanced look. Everything looks wonderful online.

I filled in the form they sent and returned it, but they still haven't answered the specifc questions I asked. I'm still a long way from finalizing anything so I'm not pushing, but it would be nice to know if the resort is a good option or not for the group that we'll have.

We did A LOT of research!! Unfortunately, we were unable to do a visit... But I have previously been to the Riviera Maya area for a friends wedding a couple of years back... She had her wedding at the Barcelo Tropical, which I believe isn't too far from the Gran Porto...it is also a great resort area!! It's is just further down the peninsula... My travel coordinator also has been to our resort and gave rave reviews for it!!  Honestly, I would say that you probably couldn't go wrong with a 4 or 5 star resort in the Riviera Maya area.. The beaches are fantastic and there is an old charm to most of the resorts....

I hope that this helped!!  I do know that the Royal across the street is their sister resort and you can find a TON of reviews and photos for it...  It is more of a luxury Resort... It's been given 5 stars vs 4.5 for the Gran Porto....  The only reason we did not opt for that resort was due to the fact that it is adults only and we have guests bringing children... But we did book the oceanfront Gran master suite, which grants us full access to the Royal and all of it's amenities if we would like to "escape" from our guests!

Good luck with your destination wedding!!!!

I sure did!! I'll post some as soon as I get them from our photographers ;)

I doubt that you're still keeping up with this blog.... But if so, could you post a few pictures of your wedding??!! We are trying to decide on whether to do the ceremony and reception on the North Beach or Central beach location... Any advise would be GREAT!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
