can a veil be fixed?

not sure if I have mentioned this before or not, but my dad stepped on my veil after he walked me down the aisle...and ripped the bottom of it...of all the things that I wanted to keep, the veil was it, I figured that was actually the only thing my daughter (if I have one) would actually wear one day...anyone know how I can fix it?

If it ripped through the tulle I think your going to be out of luck. If you sew it back together there will be a seam there. Since it's ripped at the bottom, if I were you I'd definitely keep it ...who knows, your daughter might still be able to use it...maybe as a shorter veil. And, there will be this whole story about how you wanted to keep it for her and then grandpa stepped on it and it ripped....it's one of those memorable wedding day bloopers. sorry, I wasn't much help.

its okay, I figured as much, its a chapel length veil so if it had to be shortened a little it wouldn't be the end of the world, but maybe I will keep it ripped for now and when and if I ever use it again, we can fix it then

I didn't recall from your pics, but did it have embroidery or any type of embellishment? If it didn't, I wouldn't think it would be a huge fix if it wasn't ripped way up. Like how far up did he rip it? In half? A few inches from the bottom?

 

If it did, you could maybe even send it to a professional and see if they could fix it so you could keep it as an heirloom. It might be worth the money since it is so important.

it just ripped at the very bottom, there was no embellishment on it at all. It is just a plain solid, ivory chapel length veil

Even if you can't fix it and your daughter doesn't want to wear it, keep it so that she can play dress up. Daughters love having stuff from their mommies. And think of how cool it will be for her to have her mother's veil.

If you can't do much with it (as a veil) why not use it as the ring bearer pillow cover for your daugther or if you don't have a baby girl, you can make it for your stepdaughter (it could be at the same time something new and something old !) You could just sow it on the pillow and decorate with lace or ribbons...

 

another thing would be to make a baby pillow cover to put as decoration in the crib or somewhere else in the babies room.

thanks Annie, I don't have a stepdaughter, but I am sure somehow it can be used again...thanks for all the ideas.
My husband and I don't have children yet, I was meaning that someday if I have a daughter (or a son, his wife could use it too)

The tulle cannot be fixed without it being visible - but it can definitely be shortened. ASnd who knows - in 20 something years when a daughter or neice wants to use it maybe they'll be able to fix it!

 

The reason I know is that I lent my veil to a friend who is getting married in October. A dog ran across it and tore a hole and she has sent it all voe rhte country (before she even told me about it - i totally don't think she had to) to try and get it fixed. The bottom line is either they sdee the stitches (which honestly no one would even notice I think) or they shorten it. I don't really care because of course I've already worn it but just so you know.
