Riviera Maya Wedding......any suggestions???

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies,

I just recently got engaged at the Grand Princess Resort in Playa del Carmen.  My fiance and I want to go back to Mexico to celebrate our wedding!  We just have no idea where to start!  Does anyone have any advice on where to stay and celebrate?  The Grand Princess was beautiful inside and out, but I'm not sure if it throws a great wedding!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Kelly

My daughter was married at the Fairmont Mayaokoba, about forty miles south of Cancun and maybe, twenty north of Playa.  Everything went beautifully, and with the services offered by the events department, you won't need the extra expense of a planner or travel agency.  The resort staged the event perfectly, and we contracted with local vendors for flowers, music, ceremony officiant, etc.  Let me know if you want more info.  It was definitely not a "cookie cutter" wedding!

Hello MrsStairs congrats on the engagment this site will give you lot of information to help pick a resort.  I used websites sites like localgringo, vacationstogo.com and others in the beginning to help narrow down resorts.  They allow you to group all of the hotels in the mayan riveria by AI or non AIs and then you can group them by adult only and family etc.  It really helps

I am actually getting married at the grand sunset princess.  Will you let me know how your engagment trip was...any tips or advice.  Thanks so much!

Happy planning

We were actually looking at the Fairmont!  We definetely do not want to have extra expenses!  The website didn't really give much info on teh packages they offer; is it all al la carte?  Also, a lot of the resorts force you to use their vendors, was your daughter able to pick her own?  I'm mainly worried about the photographer!

Thanks ladies for your input!  We did look at the Faimont as an option, but the website did nto give much info on their packages!  Was your daughter able to use local vendors that were not supplied by the resort; I have found that most resorts make you use their vendors.  I'm just worried about the photographer!

SDSteph~~ We actually got engaged at the Grand Princess!!  It was beautiful!!  We were thinking about going back there for our wedding at first, but I couldn't really find any details on packages and could not figure out where the ceremony would take place!  Let me know if you want me to send you some pics!!

P.S. I highly recommend the pool access room!!!!  It was amazing!!!!

Here is a link to my vendor and supplier reviews:

The Fairmont Mayakoba's events office staged the event (perfectly!), and we used our own vendors for flowers, music, photography, etc.  My daughter's wedding was her own, and this is definitely not a package location.  Contact the Fairmont's event manager, tell them what you want, and see what you can negotiate!

Also, go to tripadvisor.com and read the reviews under hotels.  When you find a resort that you like, contact their events department and see what is available.  Don't be put off by online room rates as there is usually a block rate for wedding guests.  That said, my endorsement is still behind the Fairmont!

Our favorite local photographer was Elizabeth Medina, but she was not available for date.  You are right to be cautious here because none of the other details matter if you don't like your pictures.  They are your lasting keepsake.  We used Henry Shoots from NYC, and not only are his pictures fantastic, but everyone loved him,  He and his assistant moved in and out among the guests, and no one noticed until they were happy to see them again!  The cost of bringing a photographer with you is not as great as you might think.

If you can book Elizabeth, I would do it and work through the other details later.  Her pictures are up close and intimate, and not over staged with special affects.  Florists can do several weddings in one day, but photographers (and entertainment) are limited.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures that I can share at this time, but Henry might if you want to contact him.

Hello!  I am getting married at the Grand Riviera Princess (the sister resort of the Grand Sunset Princess) as I'm sure you are aware since you were there :) We are getting married on the beach, and having a private beach party reception.  I've attached a few pieces of information about the wedding packages and reception options :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
