Married before your destination wedding?

We are getting legally married in our hometown a couple of weeks before leaving for Mexico. Apparently in BC you can no longer get married at city hall or a courhouse... so we're just doing it at a local landmark with just our families present. We have told guests of our plans but that hasn't deterred anyone from coming to our DW in Mexico.

Hi Dilara and co.

We got legally married in a church in June. Only our immediate family and two friends of mine and the best man.  No other friends or anyone else knows of the service. We always knew that we were going to get legally married at home since it is such a hassel with blood tests etc. to have it done in Mexico. I wanted a church wedding so I got that so that in our eyes is our legal date and we will have our destination date...so I guess we will have to celebrate twice every year!

We will celebrate our union every June and reflect on our memories of our day every Nov.  We will likely tell our guests when we really got married as we will not be signing a wedding certificate at the resort but maybe a symbolic certificate of service.

We got married in 2008 at a local courthouse in order to buy our home and are just now planning our DW.  Everyone is different, you have to do what is right for you.  We weren't going to tell anyone either but we ended up breaking down and telling our parents the night before. Our parents preceded to tell the rest of the family ;)

We got married legally at home before we left.  We had our ceremony at a church with about 25 of our immediate family members.  We didn't want the hassle of doing things legally in Mexico and plus none of our families came so it was nice for them to see us get married at home first.

Hi RoyalBride610,

I have a question about wedding attire for church. We are going to do same thing church ceremony just immediate family and bridal party. What did you wear? Did you wear white? Did you do it on the weekend or during a week? And what church were you married in? We are planning to do it in Catholic Church and I am not sure if we have do to an entire mass?

I appreciate all your help and time.

Thank you,

Anna

We're going to get legally married about 3 months before our DW so that my Granny can have a special role in our wedding (she wouldn't be able to come to Mexico).  Someone on here mentioned that there are other threads on here about getting legally married before you go.. has anyone found any really informative ones?

Any idea on what your symbolic ceremonies are going to be like?  I'm thinking of doing the sand blessing in a picture frame of us.  And we want to do our own vows.  Looking for ideas!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
