Keeping FI Wedding Band a Surprise

Recommended Posts

Tom says he doesn't really care about picking out his wedding band ... so what do you think if I just surprise him with it on our wedding day?

He is very proud of his Irish background, so I know he will love a platinum Celtic design ring, inscribed inside.

But I also think maybe I should still let him decide regardless of whether or not he has a preference.

I like this idea---- we had planned on doing this also. He was going to buy my band and I would buy his, and neither of us would see our rings until we exchanged them during the ceremony.

But, of course, we walked into a jewelry store and each found the ring we wanted and bought them. So now we've spoiled our own surprise....

He leaves Iraq TOMORROW!!!!! Has to go through a few days of getting his soldiers demobilized once back in the States ... so I will be meeting him at the airport for one of those sappy, tear-jerking reunions on August 22 or 23!!!!

I know!!! He's been gone since June 18, 2006.

I can't believe it's been 14 months!!!

We talk on the phone a few times a week and email daily .... but it's going to be weird having him home and getting used to each other again. We know it's going to be like 'dating' all over again.

Nothing planned right away but in September or October we're going to go to South Beach for a long weekend, I think. That's where he's been talking about anyway. My boss is giving me plenty of time off (probably I'll take it as long weekends) ... and do some short trips to the beach, visit family, etc etc.

I am just so excited, but also anxious, and even a little nervous.... But I can't wait!!

I think I also may surprise my FI with a wedding band. Right now we have a plain gold one that was his great grandfather's (which he likes), but when I was picking out my WBs, I saw him looking at some that matched mine. He even tried a few on, but then didn't want to spend the money. So, I'm thinking of picking one out and having it engraved. It's great to have a family heirloom so to speak, but I thought it might be nice to start are only family heirloom as well.

I'm so happy to hear your FI will be home soon. Like Ann said, I can't imagine, but at the same time, my FI is a cop and works second shift so sometimes we go days with nothing more than a groggy kiss when he gets home and I'm asleep and when he's asleep and I leave for work. Plus, he doesn't get holidays off, so I go to Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. and other family functions alone for the most . Others wonder how I can stand it, but you just adapt and make your time together really count.

Anyway, glad he's coming home safe and sound!

I'm so happy for you! I can't imagine... you must be so excited!

So as not to completely hijack the thread, I think keeping his wedding band a surprise is an awesome idea! If you think he may want to at least have some say, you could always take him to the jewelry store to try a few things on to get a feel for what width and style he wants... Sam and I may end up doing this :) That way he has some say in it, but you still get to surprise him!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
