The Dress

Okay, so I decided that I would find my dress this summer, because shopping in a Chicago winter is not the most pleasant experience.... My adventures started in late June, when I went to a bridal expo with my sister, and on the way back, stopped at a dress store.

That day, I tried on a bunch of dresses, and fell in love with this Watters gown.

This will NOT be my wedding gown... read on to find out why.

(Didn't know what it was until I did research on it- the store had ripped out all the tags.) It was on sale, but I had just started looking & wasn't ready to buy. The saleswoman told me I could put down about $100 to "hold the price". She said I'd get a store credit if I didn't order the dress, which I was cool with.

Then they tried to pull the bait and switch. When I told them I wasn't getting that dress, they tried to say that they "put in the order" and the "dress was probably already cut" (even though they require 70% down to start a custom order, and my $100 was FAR from...) girl_werewolf.gif

After fighting with the manager (literally, she was psycho), they FINALLY agreed to give me store credit they promised. Long story short, the place is SUPER-SHADY and I'm glad I never have to deal with them again.

Moving on......

I did a couple more shopping trips, one with bridesmaids and FMIL, and another with my mom and sister. My experience with this particular David's Bridal location (Norridge) was very positive, and I fell in love with a gown that was less than half the cost of the elusive Watters gown.

I ordered it in Ivory instead of bright white, without the chapel-length train (HEAVY!), and minus the colored sash (which I might add on later, just not in that bright blue color).

It will arrive in mid-October- can't wait to see it again!!

Gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE lace dresses :) The Watters dress is beautful, but I like your final decision. And that is just such poor management at that store... glad you got away!

Do you have pics of the final dress without the sash? I'm wondering what the waistline looks like.

Thanks!!!

I originally didn't think I'd like lace dresses but I love them now!

Still debating the sash.... The bridesmaids are wearing blue, and FI is wearing chocolate brown.... since the actual dress will be ivory instead of white (as pictured), either color might be nice...

The actual gown will be here in a few weeks, so I'll post some update pics when it's finally here. :-)

The dress is here and now I'm having second thoughts!! I am thinking about selling it and going with a more fitted dress to show off the curves. I always wanted one but was scared to go for it because I have hips.. but I know my FI would absolutely LOVE to see me walk down the aisle in something like that.

Thanks-- I actually ended up going out dress shopping by myself a few months before the wedding and went with something completely different-- I was SO much happier with the choice I made without the pressure of shopping with the family/friends entourage!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
