Planning Blog Entry #1

My fiance and I got engaged on Valentine's Day this year (about 5 weeks ago), and we have almost all the major details worked out already. Part of why we chose to do a destination wedding, aside from the fact that we thought it would be beautiful and intimate, was that we wanted to keep everything low key, and we thought that with a destination wedding, you can set any tone you want. I'm so busy with work, I didn't know how I could ever spend all my time wedding planning. Of course, now I'm totally obsessed anyway! I think I'm actually pretty relaxed about most of the details, but I can't seem to keep myself off of BDW! Oh well, this is the one time I'm ever going to do this, so I might as well do it right! smile36.gif

I thought I might be able to start focusing on real life again though, if I just post a bunch of stuff here and get it out of my system. It will be kind of like therapy for me!

I found my dress about 2 weeks ago at Evalina Couture in Calgary, after going to 3 other bridal shops. I made my appointment at Evalina's first, but it was 2 weeks away, so I went to the other salons first. I found one dress that I really liked (a really pretty Paloma Blanca in 'oyster' colour, with pickups through the skirt, v-neckline and a copper band around the waist). It was a beautiful dress, and I probably would have gone with it, but it didn't feel quite right. I was hesitating, and now I realize that it was because it wasn't "the" dress. I didn't realize it until I found "the" dress at Evalina's:

It's a Romona Keveza Legends dress, and I ordered it in a deep ivory colour. Funny thing is, I'd tried on so many dresses before I found it, that for the past 2 weeks, I kept remembering it as a very soft pink colour, and then when I went in on Saturday to actually order it, I realized it was actually a deep ivory colour! I like the ivory even better though, so phew! They're also adding cap sleeves for me. I forgot to take pictures of myself in the dress, and I'm so annoyed with myself! smile105.gif

I haven't ordered my veil yet, but I think I'm going to get the one in the picture of the dress. I tried it on with the dress at the store, and it looks really gorgeous together. That said, before I tried this one, I thought I would get a mantilla veil, and I still think that would look really pretty, especially since my dress has pretty simple lines. Would love to hear some opinions on the veil!

Other than the dress, we've booked the ceremony and reception in Wailea, Maui, the photographer, the videographers, the officiant and our plane tickets. We've only been engaged 5 weeks, and it feels like we've done almost everything! Our wedding planners at A Dream Wedding have been a huge help. We really didn't have much of a choice though, since we had always talked about getting married in the fall (not that it makes much of a difference in Hawaii!), and we didn't want to wait until fall 2009. For me though, it's probably best this way, because it minimizes the time that I can spend thinking about the whole thing. I've also never been great at waiting for things!

I totally understand what you mean about being obsessed with the whole wedding thing. I'm the same way. I found the forum to be very helpful in getting me to talk (well write) about the wedding and to be able to post things as well. Its really awesome too that you've gotten most of the big planning out of the way, so now you can enjoy the little details a bit more :)

It does really help to write about it on the forum. It definitely helps get it out of my system.

It's really nice having the big plans out of the way for our wedding now, so that I can start thinking about the details. Now that I've found my dress, now all I can think about is deciding on my veil, shoes, hair and makeup... I guess at some point I should start focusing more on the things that don't involve fashion, but it's hard, because that part is so much fun!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
