AHR question from a newbie

Recommended Posts

We haven't even picked a date or location yet for the actual wedding, so planning the AHR is months away. But I have been thinking about the AHR and have a question..

Since one of the main reasons we are having a DW is to save money, we want to keep the AHR at a low cost. Is it tacky to have a Friday evening reception (when halls are cheaper) and not do a formal sit down dinner, but some hors d'oeuvres or something?

We just want to keep the cost down.

I don't think that is tacky at all. IMHO I think something like that is perfect!! I am still trying to decide myself. I also want to keep the cost down and I am not going to have many people - about 25 or so. So, we'll either do a heavy cocktail reception, or sit-down dinner in a nice resturant that has a private room. Not enough people for a hall relief.gif

I agree - it's not tacky at all. We are having a sit down dinner at a friend's restaurant for about 50 people - but not doing any of the formal things a wedding reception usually entails. Hors d'oeuvres on a Friday night sounds just fine! Keeping costs down for us was extremely important as well.

I'm so glad I saw this thread. My mom and I were actually just talking at lunch about me maybe just having a wine & cheese or tapas thing in an afternoon vs. a full out reception or BBQ (which was the original plan). The whole reason for a DW for us was to save $ and also because I'm not one for a big thing in my honour - I don't like being the center of attention.  So I didn't really want a big party at home either. A little afternoon thing just might be the way to go for us!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
