Providing your own music.

Recommended Posts

Alright ladies I need some help..

I have decided to pass on the spanish-only speaking DJ, and am taking control of the music portion of our wedding celebration. We are having a ceremony on the beach, then a cocktail hour, followed by dinner, and then the reception/dancing.

1) Does anyone have any ideas on ceremony ideas?? I think we are using that hawaiian song with the guitar and the guy sings somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world this would be, but after that I am stuck. What songs have you heard for the bride and groom for the post ceremony. My friend had "Son of a preacher man", which was fun, but he was a son of a preacher man.. so it worked.

2) Cocktail hour-- I was thinking jimmy buffet, beach boys, "beachy stuff". Or do you think Jazz?

3) Dinner?? I have no clue on this one.

4) Reception-- I think I have this covered, but suggestions are always welcome.

Here's a link to the thread where everyone has posted their song lists.

I'm using The Shrek 'Somewere Over the Rainbow' to walk down the aisle ... and either 'I'm A Believer' by Smashbox or Toby Mac's 'Made to Love You' to walk back with. When FI comes out and right before processional starts, the cue for everyone to sit and FI to get in place will be 'Ground Control to Major Tom.'

That's an awesome thread that Tami posted; I got a lot of great ideas from it too.

For me, I just listen to songs on the radio (old and new) and think how it would sound in the wedding. For my cocktail hour and dinner portion, I have a lot more slower, jazzy type songs. Nothing too distracting. I have Michael Buble, and Sunday Morning by Maroon5 (acoustic version), things like that. But if I hear a song and I like it, I add it to my playlists that I've started on iTunes. You and I still have tons of time to make a totally kick-butt playlist! :)

Great music choices.. I need to find a music to define Dan.. maybe "The Gambler".

"The Gambler" is my FI's song too! I'm sure we'll hear it several times during the evening, lol!

I also listen to the music channel from our cable TV provider, since it provides the name of the song and artist. Right now, I'm listening to the Reggae station to find some fun, upbeat songs to play during the cocktail hour.

I just thought of this the other day and it's been a great help...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
