If your guests can afford it, I would highly recommend Sensatori without a doubt!   Azul beach is nice too but rooms are too small and nothing amazing ...for what you pay which is a lot in my opinion; however, their staff is very nice.  I hear they may be renovating very soon.

Hope this helps.

Yes, my TA told me that Azul Beach will only have small weddings (10pax) until May 1st. But both hotels are way too expensive for my guests. I can't ask anyone to pay those prices, besides I'm not sure it is worth it. At the moment we're looking at Gran Porto Real. Much better prices and the hotel seems nice. I didn't want a resort "in town" before but it might work out well for my guests that are staying more than 5 nights so they won't be bored. Which resort did you end up choosing?

Privmavera -- Yes, I don't blame you for not going with either.  Just like us, you have to think about your guests and what they can realistically afford; otherwise, you won't have many people show up.  Not mention, those resorts charge around $100/per guest for entry into your event(ss) at the hotel.  As for the Gran Porto, I think it's a nice hotel...seen it before.  We are having children at our wedding and i was told they don't accept children, which is a bummer for us. They have extended the beaches on Playa so you get more beach space than before.

We are planning on renting a villa instead to accommodate our immediate family.  I already found a wedding planner who is very good, responsive and quite affordable, so that should ease the burden a bit.  Still deciding on which of the 3 villas we like...hope to make a decision by next week.  If you can do a site visit at some point it's really helpful.

Anyhow, good luck planning!

Yes, exactly. Most of our guests will travel from Europe (one couple from Australia) so they are already paying for an expensive plane ticket. Even though we haven't booked anything yet, we already have guests worrying about the cost, so I really want to choose an affordable option for everyone.

Gran Porto Real do accept children, which is why I'm looking at it. The Royal next door don't, maybe that is the one you were thinking of?

A villa sounds awesome. I thought they would be too expensive so I haven't even looked at any. I won't be able to do a site visit unfortunately, can't afford it, but I have been to the area before without visiting any of the luxury resorts though. I'm normally a backpacker ;)

Welcome & Congrats! I ended up choosing the Royal Playa del Carmen because it is a beautiful resort and has 2 cheaper sister resorts as well (which are also family friendly). But its all about choosing whats right for you! Good luck in searching through the forum!!

Also, just to let you know about this, the Royal (the sister Resort next door to the Gran) does allow children to come to any wedding related events (ceremony, welcome dinner, reception etc)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
