I have been engaged since February of this year and I still have not changed my status on Facebook. The people that I wanted to know, do know, but I don't want everyone in my business like that!

I waited about a day before posting the news/changing my relationship status on FB. I called my best friend and parents, and sent an email to my closest friends (who live all over the place). Only after that did I post it. I'm not super close with my aunts and uncles so I let my parents & FB pass on the news! No one seemed to mind :)

We called our parents and siblings and then posted on facebook the same night. I think it's a great way to let people know. We're not big phone-talkers so it would be a little weird for us to call up our friends and tell them .

This actually reminds of what I see going on with some celebrities...

You know, like when a parent of an actor/singer/etc. doesn't find out about their child's engagement until they see it in the tabloids/media and they get really upset about it. I don't know, for some reason it reminded me of that even though it's a different situation. You're telling your family & friends and the media would tell the whole world. Anyway, back to the topic at hand..

It is the time of technology, so I don't blame you for being excited and updating your status right away. However, I understand why they would be upset. They are the people closest to you and putting yourself in their shoes, I think you would feel that you should've been told first rather than the same time with everyone else. I don't have FB (idk never got into it that one particularly even though I'm all about technology), so I just told the people closest to me, then announced it to everyone else after.

I called my parents right away, but they already knew everything anyways. Then I called my closest friends and family (close cousin, aunt and a few friends). Right after that I immediately announced it on facebook and changed my status. I was just soo happy and excited that I wanted the world to know! But in my situation, many of my other family members are all on FB so they understood that I couldnt call them all, but were still happy to be able to hear the news.

I called my parents & brother (but they already knew he was going to propose) and then we both text all of our friends & family. After that we announced it on facebook....most of my aunts, uncles & cousins are on facebook so we announce pretty much everything on there anyway (engagements, pregnancies, etc).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
