We are getting married at Sandals Antigue July 2011.  Wedding coordinator has been great.  Have the date and time set for the wedding.  We have chosed our location on the resort to get married.  Have booked hair and makeup and sand ceremony.  But don't know what to do about photography.  We have already spent A LOT of money on everything else and the photography is quite expensive but don't want to get to small of a package but also don't want to get too much.  Also wedding coordinator is saying needs to be booked and paid for 60 days from wedding.  Does anyone have any suggestions on the photography and anymore pointers on anything else and is it true that we can't book the photography when we get there?

We are getting very excited cheesy.gif!!!  Thanks!!

I'm getting married there June 6, 2011.  Just 4 weeks from today.  I think my biggest question for anyone who has already gotten married there is:  were you surprised by anything?  Is there something you wished you had known going into it?  Do you have any advice for first time brides going to another country to get married?

Thank you all in advance!!!

Hi Sarah,

Sandals Antigua was awesome!  Our room was fabluous, we had the one bedroom honeymoon penthouse with Butler service.  This was great because there was a separate living room and bedroom, so we could spread out while getting ready for the wedding.

I think my biggest surprise was the beach.  It is public and if you are planning to get married out there, it is very crowded and loud.  I was supposed to get married out there at 4 pm and I went out the day before at 4 pm to see how it was and it was so bad I ended up changing my wedding location.  When I mean loud, I mean loud music from the resort next door, topless girls and drunk people screaming in the ocean, and vendors everywhere.  Not to mention all the people just laying out on the beach. Since the beach is public Sandals can not do anything about this.  I was able to be married right inside the Sandals "gate" and still be on the sand with a few of the ocean, but still not what I pictured.

The wedding staff were awesome.  They take you and multiple couples in a van to the courthouse to get your marriage license.  That was fun to talk to the other couples.  We had 5 couples with us.  The whole wedding process is very organized and they take care of everything!   I will also was surprised about how hot it was in April and was really wishing I had on a short dress!!  Very sweaty during the wedding and pictures!!

Feel free to ask any other questions!

Hi Caroline,

Thank you so much for being willing to answer questions.  This is such a foreign experience to me that I'm afraid I'll totally miss something or wish I had known something so you are really helping.

I had kind of had those fears about the beach when I heard it was public.  It really does sound like a bad idea so I think I will shoot for the gardens or something and then take some pictures on the beach.  We are staying in the oceanview suite with butler service.  I'm pretty excited about that.  I've been to Sandals Royal Caribbean and Beaches Turks and Caicos (for his brother's wedding.  His parents are really glad they don't have any more kids because our weddings make them spend lots of money on travel) and I've never experienced butler service.  Any advice as far as that?  Did you feel that it was worth it?

   Again, thank you so much!

Thanks Caroline, it is so helpful to hear from people after they have gotten back home.  We are set to get married now at 3:00 p.m. on July 23 at the Barefoot Gazebo which is located right off the beach.  Do you think that will be good?  Is that the same location you switched too.

Everyone has been so helpful.  I am so glad I found this site :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
