Erica...that is us exactly! His mom said she is giving us 5K (she doesn't have a ton of money and has to pay for siblings vacation too) so I am not counting it until I get it. And my mom said she would pay for my dress and maybe try and help in other ways too. They have a friend lending them a timeshare down there so since they will save on lodging, she might kick in a little extra! :)

The rest we are doing on our own. We are trying to save and I am banking on a bonus next march, taxes and we always have kind of 0% offer on credit cards (we play that switch around game) so we should be good.

Tom and I are paying for everything ourselves. He's giving me several $$K when he gets back from Iraq to add to our fund. So far I've been putting down deposits on my own. I'm happy that we've had enough people book that we get 2 free rooms at the resort thus far, which will help us offer at least a one night's stay to most of the bridal party. My parents are going to host/pay for our MD AHR ... but other than that ... we are doing everything on our own. I'm trying to cover most of the wedding myself and Tom is paying for the honeymoon portion. He's also paying off my car when he gets back and putting a down payment on a new one for me, so I figure I can try to cover most of the wedding.

My mother has offered to cover my dress which is huge for her because she works paycheck to paycheck.
Everyone who is getting help should understand how huge it is to be handed money- it must take some of the stress off.
It is a big stress relief to not have to worry about the money side of things. That is my biggest problem with this whole thing. I honestly don't expect to see the $5k his mom says she will give us. It's a nice gesture and I am not complaining...I just don't see where that money is coming from and I don't want myself to be put out financially by this wedding, let alone our family!

I have been independent and raised myself since age 16 mostly. My parents had no money and I have always worked 2 or 3 jobs and worked my ass off. I have a hard time accepting money from people. So I know that my mom still doesn' have much money (she has more than when we were growing up) but even her offering to pay for my dress (and it won't cost more than $500) is hard for me to accept. The only thing that makes it easier (and I know this isn't the way to look at it) is that her husband's 3 delinquent children suck money from them as if they were rich!!! It frustrates me because I never ask for money and I know it frustrates my mom because her kids never ask for money! So for my wedding, if there is any extra money she has, I am willing to accept it if she is offering it.

Sorry I went on and hijacked a little...

My parents are paying for almost everything. They gave us 20k up front which is way more than generous in my opinion. However, even though they have given us this large amount we are still trying to be as budget concious as possible. We're also paying for a number of things ourselves, like rings, invites, website, favors, OOT bags, FI suit, etc. We don't feel it's fair that my parents pay for everything when we both make decent money and can afford to do a lot on our own.

FI parents aren't contribuitng a dime. (sour subject as the reason they aren't helping is because they disapprove and don't want to contribute to something they don't believe in) Which is another reason why we're stepping up and helping out more than is expected of us. I just can't let my parents pay for it all... I know they don't have a problem with it... but I just can't do it.

My parents have given us $10k. So far we have booked the ceremony/reception and my dress with that. Not much left. FI's mom is paying for invites and we are going to see if she can help with the photographer costs.

My father travels a lot so fortunately he has been saving his points. He has enought points in airfare to fly roundtrip via SouthWest and rooms at the Hilton for FI, me, mom, dad, brother, and his GF. We really lucked out on that one.

So we have to pay for whatever is left including honeymoon, rings, FI suit, flowers, and OOT bag goodies.

Both of our parents gave us set amounts of money up front. 8k from mine, 2k from his. But to be honest, they both contributed little bits extra along the way. David and I paid for a lot of misc. stuff (hair appts, shoes etc), the rings and the honeymoon. It definitely helped a LOT to have that extra money from them! We really appreciated it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
