Recommended Posts

Uggg I didnt even think of the crimson tide coming! I get bad cramps too! Guess I'll have to make sure to pack lots of extra strength Pamprin & stick on heat thermal wraps- those are the only things that help me.

Your not the only one!! Last time I went to Mexico I got a terrible tummy for a whole day and I am worrying I'll get it again and it'll be on my wedding day!!

Looking back though it's obvious why - pancakes with chocolate sauce for breakfast, burgers and chips for lunch and Mexican chilli / fajita's for dinner! Not too mention the snacks and (all) the alcohol - think it took me 2 days to work my way through the cocktail list!!

So this time I'm just going to be sensible - plain healthy food, make sure I drink plenty of water and limit the alcohol! I have a whole week there before we get married, but I'm sure I'll make up for it the week after!!

All of your worries are normal, But Please don't let it stress you out! we have ALL worried about these things.

I worried mostly about Tan Lines, but I also was afraid of getting sick,

I got Married on a Wednesday and we arrived in cancun on a SUNDAY. I will admit, I didn't watch what I ate..LOL I enjoyed the food too much. But I did make sure I wore my Strapless bathing suit everyday before the Wedding. I know you said that it wasn't an option for you, But it doesn't mean you still can;t enjoy the sun.If you want to lay out, just put your straps down while your laying down. When your not laying out, try not to linger in the sun. Most places have those little hut things to give you shade by the pool and on the beach.

Your going to have a great wedding. Don't worry about all of this.

Once I got there, I forgot I was even worried about anything and it all worked out! :)

good Luck!

Yes, I got mine the DAY I left for cancun.Thankfully it was over by the Wedding Day, but it still sucked to have it while I was there :-(

We arrived 3 days prior and the only thing that I was worried about was the sun and getting tan/burn lines. Like someone else mentioned those days weren't your average vacation days. I didn't lounge by the pool or spend much time in the sun, partly because I sacrificed for the wedding and also because there was a lot of stuff to be done. (I didn't even get in the resort pool until the day after the wedding!)

I stayed out of the sun as much as possible and when I was in it I went overboard with the sunscreen. We had a site visit with the WC that was basically all day outside and I literally sprayed on the sunscreen every 20 minutes or so. It was ridiculous but it worked. As for the food I like to eat so I did and I had no issues thankfully wink.gif

Definitely wear the highest sunscreen you can find and take advantage of the umbrellas and huts if you burn easily. I do and went to Cuba this past winter and got burnt the first day even with sunscreen. Stayed under the huts after that and was fine. As well, take 1 immodium tablet a day to help any stomach nastiness. I think if you are careful with what you eat and drink and with the sun you'll be OK.

Also, if you are going to reach that time of the month and are on the BC pill just take it straight through and you won't get it. My Doctor says it fine to do this and I have done it several times without any problems.

I had these same worries - I went down on a Thursday and got married on a Monday, and I also wore a strapless dress. So I only wore strapless bikinis until the wedding, and I stayed out of the sun a lot. I went tanning before the trip (I know, I know - BAD), and when I got down there, I tried to stay in the shade and I wore a TON of SPF30. You don't want to have a burn on your wedding day, or even a really dark tan. I have a friend whose friend got married in Jamaica - she had the worst tan lines with a strapless dress, it looked horrible in pictures. You don't want that!

As for food, I tried to stick with chicken, rice, veg. - normal stuff I would eat at home. And drink PLENTY of bottled water! I only had a few alcoholic beverages leading up until the wedding day, but I still have a great time :). Get lots of sleep - trust me, these things work. I still fully enjoyed myself with my guests while doing all of this.

Also, I went to the gym or ran on the beach in the morning. This was a great stress reliever and it was so nice to be out on the beach in the early morning, plus it helped cause I knew I was still consuming more calories despite watching it. Even if it was just 30 min a day to myself, I squeezed in some exercise (after the wedding, forget it - I took the whole week off haha!).

Have a great time and enjoy every second because it goes by so quickly! My best advice is to savor every wonderful moment and have tons of fun :)

I can tell you from experience that even if some disaster strikes and any of those things happens you will be able to pull through because you will be so excited that it's your wedding day! We got there four days before our wedding and I didn't worry about any of that (except burning because I am super pale), and I did burn a little but you can barely tell in the pictures. But of course the night before the wedding we had a rehearsal dinner with all of our guests and I started to feel sick ... and I spent the night before my wedding sicker than I have ever been in my entire life! I won't go into detail. I think I got a virus of some kind because I actually had a fever. I stayed in bed the entire day until I had to get ready (thank goodness the wedding was at night), but I rallied and I had an amazing time at my wedding - I just barely ate anything and didn't drink at all! It was still my dream wedding - pure adrenaline pulled me through! So don't worry, you're wedding will be perfect!

I just don't feel like I'll be able to relax before the wedding day & it's kind of a waste to go 3 days before if I'm just trying to prevent all the what if's.
Burning and tanlines are in your own control. You know your body so take the necessary measures, and you'll be fine. Enjoy the sun IN MODERATION and stay in the shade often.

How much weight will you really gain in 3 days? You'll be fine. Just don't go overboard.

If you break out your photographer will be able to fix up your shots. Keep makeup handy.

Getting sick, well I hate to be the downer of the group but this is out of your control. I've been to the Dominican 5 times and not even one day was sick. Here is my wedding day story . . .

Leading up to the wedding (arrived Saturday, wedding Thursday):
- Didn't stress about anything
- Took catamaran excursions (constantly reapplied sunscreen)
- Laid under Palapa Huts on the beach
- Forgot to apply sunscreen before going in pool - got burnt, had tan lines, but honestly didn't really care and it wasn't that bad
- I ate the same type of foods I normally do at home
- Stayed away from lots of fruit, salads, drinks, and burgers (as they may not be cooked fully)

My wedding day:
- 9am breakfast of bacon, potatoes, orange juice, eggs
- Room service at noon and had pasta
- Drank lots of ice water (LOTS of ice)
- Stayed cool and tried to avoid the heat
- Got married at 3:00
- Did photo's but had an "emergency" bathroom break around 5pm (but didn't feel sick)
- Headed to the beach for more photo's at 6pm, but as we started to walk, I puked in the flower hedge - twice. (I haven't puked since 2003, not even after drinking!)
- got to room, ripped off all my clothes, grabbed the garbage can and stayed there all night while my guests and hubby enjoyed the reception (I made him go)
- had numerous other problems/accidents (involving changing the sheets and having a shower), then just had an upset stomach from 8:30pm and on.

Like I said, this is out of your control. What's the point of stressing about the problems? Do what you can and enjoy your time.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
