***** Nova!!

When my husband and i started looking for a photog for our Oct 2011 DR wedding I became an expert at scouring the internet and reviews.  (exhausting!) I hated the notion of being pushed toward the resort "preferred" vendor just because that photoographer paid a fee to the resort or hands over a portion of the booking fee.  I wasnt going to be influenced by that when it came to documenting our wedding.  It became even more disheartening when I saw pictures from "said photographer" that were so photoshopped they looked like one of those spraypaint portraits you can buy at the exhibition or fair. The back ground was  "created" with so much photoshopped enhancement I knew that wasnt for us. And the "poses"  ...oh the poses. As I watched each new set of pictures come up, the bride and groom were in the same poses each and every time. I knew my husband wouldnt be up for placing his hand on his hip and lunging towards me with spot lights illuminating him and thats what i LOVE about him!  It just wasnt us.

We were getting married in the DR on the beach and i wanted, well, the beach and the beauty of the day ...  something very natural.   Photo journalism.  Moments we didnt even know would be captured. The photographer i kept coming back to was ***** Nova.  She was in the process of moving her business from Canada to the DR with her husband Rob and they are now established there.  Her pictures are natural ... there is no "posing" ... there is no excessive photoshopping ... she lets you be yourselves and catches moments that are real and intimate.  She is sweet and gentle and passionate and fun and asks about your love and brings out smiles and emotions and has a reassuring calm about her. Having ***** document our day was the choice my husband and I look back and and are very grateful for.

Hi Funsocks!

I just had to comment because I feel the same way!!  I know what photos you mean with the people leaning towards one another with a spotlight behind and hands on hip.  Not my cup of tea!!  Although others seem to be pretty wild about them.  To each their own I guess!  We are going with K A T Y A Nova as well (I don't understand why this blog stars out her first name so I have separated the letters in case some people don't know who we're talking about).  I love her photojournalistic style and can't wait to see the pics that we'll get!!  Her work is pricey, but I would suggest contacting her anyways and seeing what she can do for you.  That's what I did and we're super pleased with the package we worked out.  Another photographer that has a similar style is Karina Jensen.  We were originally going to book her, but missed our opportunity.  I haven't seen that many reviews of her, but her work is really great and her prices quite reasonable I think.

mimiq ... thanks for the comment!

Yes ... "to each their own".  we made the right decision for us and i'm certain you'll be super happy with your images as well.

Good that you figured out a way to show "K A T Y A' S" name on the comments. Not sure why the blog hides her name.  Maybe concerned about eslf promotion or something, i havent been on here enough to understand the ins and outs.

Best of luck on your big day!

Hi! I am planning a honeymoon photoshoot this winter in DR and are thinking of using Karina Jensen as well. We contacted her for pricing and she was much less (half the cost) than K.N. and her work looks wonderful! I would also like to hear feedback from anyone who has experience working with her.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
