Welcome and Congrats! I am from the Ottawa area too!

I got engaged in April and started planning in May, FI and I are getting married at the end of February in Jamaica. So if you start now you should have plenty of time, If you have any questions just let me know! Happy planning!

Our TA told us to wait til August as prices would come down then and we want to keep the cost for our guests around 1500-1700 for the week. It will most likely be Jamaica or Mexico for that budget as we don't want the D.R. or Cuba. There are so many decisions to make already... and we've only been engaged for a week!

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! I am so so happy to hear it, it is your and FIs day and you DO NOT need the extra stress of someone who thinks it is your duty to cater your day to them!

It is not ambitious at all, that is the beauty of a destination wedding.  I would however suggest getting on dress shopping ASAP.  I haven't bought mine but we are doing a Feb 2012 wedding but it often can take 6+ months for them to come in once you order.  Other than that a destination wedding can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make it.  Join us in the February 2012 Brides thread!!! We were originally looking at getting married in Jamaica, check out the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites/Beach/Grand.  We fell in love with this resort but it was definitely out of our budget.  The more affordable options we came across were the Grand Bahia Principe and Grand Palladium.  Just get a GREAT GREAT GREAT (I cannot stress that part enough) TA who specializes in destination weddings.  It took us 5 or 6 TAs before we found one who would help us out.  I don't think you need to wait until August, if you get the right TA they will get you the best possible price and many tour operators have price match guarantee!!! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!!!

Thanks Ladies! I'm leaning towards Jamaica (the Rose Hall Beach is a front runner) as we've been there and I know I loved it. Costa Rica was my first choice but I know it would cost more. May I ask who your TA is? I've walked into a couple who just shoved brochures at me like that would magically narrow the choices, GRRRR!

We tried in our area (2 different cities as we moved in the middle of planning) and had NO LUCK.  A TA actually found ME online on the FB group for my resort and she has been awesome.  She is not too far from us but everything we have done has been through email.  We did have 1 phone call to give her our credit card info as I didn't feel comfortable passing it along over the phone.  I am more comfortable on email and I like having that "paper trail" so I can re-read and make sure we are on the same page!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
