Canadiangirl - there are toooons of threads on OOT bags on the site.  There is a search function at the top that will help you find ANYTHING you are looking for!!  I think your information doesnt show up until you are more active, I am also a new member so I am probably not much help!! Congrats on the setting the date and welcome to BDW!!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on how to get this process started.  My fiancee and I are pretty flexible on dates, but we're thinking of getting married somewhere in Riviera Maya in Jan/Feb/March 2012.  I'm just getting going on this, so I was wondering how everyone else has done things.  I think since we are flexible on dates, it makes sense to pick a resort and take whatever date is available. Has anyone else gone this route?  Will a travel agent contact the resort to book the wedding date?  Or is that something I should do on my own?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi lianee!

Welcome! I am by no means an expert but I will share what I have learned and what we have decided to do!  We could not decide on a resort for the life of us I would say that this is the #1 thing to do! Deciding on a resort takes all those other options off the table, each resort offers different wedding options and having all those different things to consider just made it way to hard.

Once you have decided on a resort get in touch with them.  We were also flexible on dates but knew we wanted to be in February 2012 (or around there).  I got some great advice and that was to book your wedding date before you book your trip! Some places are already booked! for weeks straight and it would be absolutely awful if you booked your trip and couldn't get a date!!

We decided to talk to a travel agent, get some quotes and that way we could narrow down what dates we were looking at.  I have already been back and fourth 3 times with the WC at the resort because that dates I have suggested are booked!

Once we secure a date we will book our trip and send out our invites.  From what I have learned we are a little behind in the process! Since you are looking at getting married around the same time I would definitely suggest getting your resort picked so you can confirm a date!!

Hope this helps and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!!!

CONGRATS :)

hey lianee......

I dont know if this will help you or not, but this is what we did. We have a travel agent SELLOFFVACATIONS who not only found us a great price, but who is now invited to the wedding due the fact the women spends hours on the phone with me whenever I need her lol....

once we put our money down with her she e-mailed the resort and sent all the info to me via e-mail. The next day I phoned the resort and booked our date with them. They sent me the days that were available for the wedding...most resorts are really great with the info....but because im a control freak, I just call them..

if your concerned about the date you want for the wedding..what I would do is call the resort and get them to hold the slot, they will hold for 2 weeks before you have to put deposit. After you can contact a travel agent. I hope this helps..and doesnt sound like im rambling Ive been doing invites since 6am LOL LOL

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
