While I have my mind made up about where I would like to go (Jamaica)...FI does not

He recently talked to me about El Dorado Casitas Royale. Well, of course, I loved it when I saw it (I think I've loved almost every resort that I've seen).

However, I started reading the requirements for getting married in Mexico, and it just seems like it is loop after loop.

Is it really as bad as I am making it seem or it is an easier process?

It is only going to be FI and I and paying $80 for witnesses just seems a little excessive. There is a possiblty of two of our friends joining us, but it is not set in stone yet; however, that would still leave $40 to spend for witnesses. Plus the $125 for the blood tests (because I'm not going all out for the wedding packages since there is just two of us). It just seems like it would be easier still in Jamaica.

What have you ladies experienced with this?

    TIA!!

While I haven't been married at either location, I've attended wedding in both. I understand that Jamaica is much easier. Something you might consider if your FI insists on Mexico is getting married legally in the states & then having a symbolic ceremony at the resort. Several girls have suggested going to the courthouse & having the judge omit the vows & rings and sticking just to the legalities. This way it doesn't seem quite so much like a 'wedding ceremony' at the courthouse.

That maybe the best option if you are going to have your big day in Mexico!

This is what we did, lasted about 3 mins and just did the bare minimum required and the plus is it only cost $28 for everything.

I have been to Jamaica and I got married in Mexico. I personally think that Mexico is better than Jamaica for a few reasons.

            1. It is cheaper to travel and stay there
            2. It is shorter travel time (at least from where we are)
            3. We were told not to leave the resort much in Jamaica. It is pretty dangerous. And we felt the same way. When we did walk down the beach, the vendors were a lot more pushy then they seemed to be in Mexico.

Now these are only my personal opinions.. but I would not rule out getting married in Mexico if you are going for "easier"

We just did our "legal" ceremony here before we left! WAY WAY easier than worrying about having all of the proper stuff when you are there. We didnt tell anyone and we had the most simple ceremony possible. Pretty much we just signed the certificate and went in front of the judge. We didnt exachange rings or anything

We did the legal ceremony at home in Court, and the wedding ceremony in Mexico without the paperwork

I was going to say the same thing... do the legal piece here in the states before going down and then do the symbolic ceremony in Mexico. That's how we are doing it. I thought there were just a bunch of requirements we'd have to deal with (FI is divorced so there is added stuff there), so we agreed to do the legal piece here in the states and then we are doing a "renewal of the vows" ceremony with no paperwork in Mexico.

One of the big reasons we're getting married in Jamaica is because of this.

We both adore Mexico and have been many times, but the amount of work and money was kind of terrifying to us. Jamaica was SO MUCH EASIER, and a plus, we've never been there before so it's something new and exciting.

It usually is a bit more expensive than Mexico, but honestly, our group rate is cheaper than the resort we wanted to get married at in Mexico... plus our wedding package is MUCH cheaper. You just have to shop around :)

For me, getting married in the courthouse before wasn't an option. The wedding would never feel "real" for me.

                  Good luck :)

We chose Mexico for the same reasons listed above; to circumvent the legal red tape, we're marrying secretly here in the States and doing a symbolic ceremony in Cancun.

We are also doing the "legal" part in the states, probably about a week before we leave. Stealing an idea I saw from another bride on here, we'll be taking the opportunity to invite our grandparents to the legal part (not telling ANYONE else though!!), since they won't be able to travel to Mexico.
