Congratulations on your engagement! It can definitely be overwhelming. I was in the same boat too I didn't want to far of a flight from NY. Plus my place had to be family friendly. I have an 8 year old brother and little cousins who are coming to the wedding. This site is great for a research. Happy planning!

Hello and WELCOME!!!!

I knew I wanted to do a DW when we decided to plan the big day. I did a lot of searching for the best places. It took me a few months to decide on Cancun (the most affordable for us), but once I did the next task was picking a resort...and there are TONS! I honestly used this forum on to help me decide. Read reviews of any place that you are interested in. Look at pictures. Look at packages. We ended up choosing Moon Palace because it was close to the airport (so no one had to be in the car for long after the flight), they had a place I could have a Catholic ceremony, and the price. PLUS if you get so many rooms booked you can have free unlimited events (ie welcome dinner, cocktail hour, reception...etc).

You have come to the right place to get you started! All the ladies on here are SUPER friendly and helpful. Never hesitate to ask a question (even if you think it's dumb), because I promise we have all been there at some point!

cheers.gifCongratulations and Happy Planning!!

Congrats and welcome.  You are doing just fine with your first forum post.  Choosing a resort is based on things like:

  • size  the smaller resorts offer close proximity to all resort amenities and On the other hand, larger Resorts offer more space and selection
  •  Location of the resort compared to major tourist towns can be something to consider. There are many great places to visit along the coast of the Caribbean Sea. Most of your guests will have different preferences about if or how far they'll venture off the resort but the location of your resort can definitely affect their decision.
  • Aesthetics of the resort can be important for the wedding day photos.

~ The more color, interesting architecture & mature vegetation the better for your images.

  • External vendor policies & fees
  • Adults only vs. kid friendly
  • What time do you want your ceremony & reception? Will those times be available for you?

Hopefully these questions will help you narrow down your search to something that you will be happy with.

Hello Ladies,

I just got married at Iberostar Tucan, in Playacar Mexico which is in Playa del carmen Mexico. It's a gated area which mean you can leave the resort and be in its own community. its beautiful there. There are many wonderful resorts to pick from. I personally been to the Tucan 4 times and love it, but my husband and I did go to mexico to scout resorts.

Tucan, is the connected to Quetzal they share the property.  I sugguest you contact Gabriela at weddings.playacar@iberostar.com.mx

May is a very busy month for wedding so please give her a few days to respond. Trust me she take care of everything for you and her team is wonderful.  When i first contacted her it almost took a week but when i told her we were coming to visit she made sure everything was set for us to see halso we went there for someone else's wedding she made sure our room was setup with fruits a mattress pad on our bed. Most of the beds are hard but you can always request for a mattress pad.

This resort is a 5 mins walk to a plaza that has starbucks and little shopping needs... as well a 5-10 $7 cab ride to playa del carmen which is were the majore shopping clubs and places to eat are...

Well, Good luck ladies...Please remember , its your wedding and yout cant make everyone happy. You and your furture hubby should be all that matter on this day and your guest will realize this.

please feel free to ask me any questions.

GOOD LUCK!!

Congrats on your engagement ladies..

I just thought I would share my story, since I too am really in the beginning stages.. My fiance and I wanted to have our wedding in Jamaica-- Couples Sans Souci to be exact.. We were there two years ago and absolutely loved it! But I was really worried it might be too expensive for my guests.. Also, since it is an adults only resort, I didn't want to force guests to leave their kids at home..

Last summer we went to Cancun and had an amazing time so we decided to have our wedding there.. The flight from NY isn't too long and there were so many hotels to choose from.

We finally went with the The Royal in Cancun for the ceremony and cocktail hour and The Gran Caribe for our reception.. Both are all inclusive.. The Royal is adults only.. The Gran is family oriented.. And they are right next door to each other..Wedding activities will be taking place in both.. And we love how guests can choose between an expensive or more affordable option..

Hey Michelle!  By this time you've probably already picked a place, but if not...have you looked into renting a villa?  If you're having a smaller group, it can be so much more cost effective for everyone and it makes for a really special and personal weekend!

We got married at a villa in Playa del Carmen back in March and it was a wonderful experience!  Riviera Maya is the way to go!

Congratulations and best of luck to you!

Hi Michelle,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!   There are so many wonderful resorts in the Mayan Riviera and their are lots of direct flights from NY.   I have photographed in most resorts from Cancun through to Tulum if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Warmest wishes,

Lori

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
