Hum, weird, if you got an exchange rate charge added it sounds like they must have put the transaction through as mexican pesos, and then your credit card charged you to change it to USD.

I keep trying to phone Sandra but no luck getting through to her.

I can try asking her to do it in US, but I don't think it will be negotiable, I think it will be whatever way they normally do it is the way it has to be done.

I leave thursday morning at 8am!

I got the answer I wanted from Sandra (finally, and only 28 hours before I leave).

For the wedding stuff, your credit card will be charged mexican pesos.

For the blood tests, it's cash only, no credit card or travellers cheques

It sucks to have found this out so late because now I want to pay the wedding stuff in travellers cheques but I have no time left to order them (I ordered a small amount last week and it took a couple days) and I also need to get more US dollars, at least that I'll be able to do today.

I recommend if you are going to take cash (like we did) to pay for alot of the wedding expenses, please please please keep it on you until you have to use it!!! The DT safe is where we got $1500 stolen out of. Just be smart with your cash. Have a great time!!

Yes, that's exactly why I am asking these questions, I want to bring as little cash as possible. We are only bringing 400-500$ cash between us, and all the rest will go on visa and travellers cheques.

We will still be leaving our valuables (money, laptop and wedding bands until the wedding) in the safe, I know it's not completely safe, but to me it's still better than bringing them with us (what would we do while swimming, etc? Plus I am really bad about forgetting my purse everywhere).

We also got our rings insured, and rather than going for the free coverage with our house insurance, we are paying a few extra dollars per month (5$ for my e-ring and 1$ each for the wedding bands) to have them insured with no deductible in case the bands are stolen from the safe before the wedding.

I'm not overly worried about this, but did want to take some precautions given what happened to you.

This is all making sense now!!! smile43.gif

After reading through this entire thread on Dreams Tulum, I am a little confused about my options for the wedding ceremony and would love a little clarification from one of the experts on here. I have purchased the Ultimate Package at Dreams Tulum and made a request to have my Gold Dinner on the terrace, however, I am only expecting 20 - 25 people. Is there a better location for this but one that is still private or at least semi-private and with an outdoorsy beautiful view? I thought that the terrace would be nicer for guests (my grandmother who is in a wheelchair is coming) and also convenient to the bathrooms, etc. However, someone noted above that that few of guests would look swallowed up. Anyone on here have about a 20 guest wedding, where did you have a private dinner afterwards and please confirm that your option was covered in the Ultimate Package.

Thanks everyone and happy Dreams Tulum weddings!!! :)

Hi! I also have the ultimate wedding package. I am getting married at the Seaside grill and expecting about 70 people. Why don't you see if this place will be an option? From what I remember, it is definitely smaller than the Terrace. It is right near the beach (reason I chose it) and could be sectioned off to be private. Just a thought. Also, when I was there I saw a wedding for about 30 people at the end of the adult pool. They had set up a long rectangular table. Maybe an option?

Don't know if you have the wedding info from Dreams Tulum but it has some good info on there. If you go with the golden menu, the $55 pp includes drinks for the entire night. On the silver menu, open bar is available for 3 hours. Not sure how much more after that.

BONFIRE!!

Oh, and I finally asked Sandra about the bonfire on the beach AFTER my reception. The cost is $15pp to include all kinds of beverages (including alcohol) and snacks (including smores).

We are definitely going to do this!!

Bonfire on the beach is a GREAT idea. Wonder if that could be done as a pre-wedding event as well (instead of formal rehearsal dinner...) Hmmm.... SO glad you all thought of these questions!

Did anyone end up having the fire dancers yet??

And have folks gone straight from ceremony to reception or did anyone do a cocktail hour on the beach?

Sunbride, I know you left today - hope you're having an AMAZING time - I'm sure you are.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
