11am wedding??

Recommended Posts

hello all - im having my destination wedding in November at the Gran Bahia Principe in runaway bay, Jamaica. they only have two time slots available (11am and 4pm) and i really wanted the 4pm slot but its already taken, so i only have the 11am as an option. has anyone had this before? we wanted to do a nicer dinner later on (6/7pm) so we're just not sure what to do with the large gap of time in between. any suggestions?

thanks for your help! :)

Hi Daphne - don't feel bad, mine is also at 11am and it's frustrating because it was originally at 4pm, but then we switched resorts and had to move the time. 11am is definitely not the time we wanted but I don't want to switch the date so we're trying to figure out a way to make it work. I don't mind so much about the time gap, but I'm worried that as the day goes on my hair and makeup will get messed up and by the time dinner rolls around I'll be a mess! So we're thinking that the ceremony and reception will take us until at least 1...maybe 2. Then we can take an hour or so to relax and freshen up, and around 3:30 or 4, we'll go offsite to get our pictures done (we want sunset pics) and then by the time we get back it will be time for dinner. So even tho it may not be the ideal time, there are ways to make this work :)

We are having an early wedding too. 10 am, we actually chose this time to around afternoon showers in FL, and more humidity. We are simply having a cake/punch reception though, then will have the rest of the afternoon to do group actvities/relax, before hitting the strip that night. It works out great for us!!

thanks so much everyone!!! thats very true about having the day last longer - thats a bonus!

heather - thats what im worried about too! we want to do pics for the ceremony as well as later for dinner and dancing, so i dont want to look "fresh" in the first pics and then "sweaty & messy" for the others!!! lol

Our wedding is at 11:30. We actually wanted an earlier wedding. We went to a destination wedding last year, at the Gran Bahia in Runaway Bay actually. :o) And the wedding was at 3pm. And there was so much time during the morning and afternoon for the guests to play and party and half the guests (us included) were TOAST for the wedding... We were hanging out at the pool with the best man and his girlfriend, doing shots at the pool side bar and playing in the sun... and if we all made it through the ceremony it was a miracle, but dinner was at 6 and many people left early - too tired, too sun stroked, too much to drink, the groom's parents included. They also planned to go to the disco later in the evening and hardly anyone showed up!

At least if your wedding is earlier, you can party WITH your guests later in the day and if they're all hammered, you will be too, so who cares. LOL

Good point! Now I'm going to have to make sure everyone takes it easy during the day of. I don't want to loose anyone early in the night!

How was the wedding if you don't mind me asking. That's where I'm getting married next year and I'd love another review :)

The wedding at Gran Bahia was beautiful. I LOVED that the gazebo was out on the peninsula over the water, so it was like a beach wedding, but without having to worry about other beach-goers getting in the way of pictures either for the ceremony or for pictures afterward. It was windier out there, but really beautiful. That's what convinced us that a destination wedding was the way to go. :o)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
