My parents paid for my dress, but only because they wanted me to get a much more extravagent one than I had originally wanted. I wanted to get a short, simple one, but my mom wanted NONE of that (We are from a relatively traditional Indian family and I am marrying a Newfoundlander!) ... I am lucky to have a supportive family for the DW!

My mom paid for my dress, but I did not go shopping with the expectation that she would do so. I even had my credit card out to pay, but she gave me a crazy look and said, "What are you doing? I'm paying."

We planned to pay for the entire wedding ourselves. My parents have given us some money, but I did not ask nor expect it since my father has a lot of health issues and medical bills. My fiance's parents have not offered to pay for anything except my fiance's military mess dress. I think times are different and you can't expect the same things that were maybe more traditional a few years ago.

My mom paid for my dress. She did give me a limit of what she could afford for the dress itself, but I certainly didn't ask or expect the help. I was able to find a dress tahtwas $200 under my mothers budget, so that was really good. I did finally have the talk with my parents about what they would be contributing, if anything. My parents had completely different ideas, so after I left they hashed it out between the two of them and settled in the middle. My mom has expressed to me that she does want to give us a certain amount so she is going to try to save up money herself. I told her that it wasn't necessary.
In the end FI and I are paying for about half of the wedding. It was less than I thought we'd have to pay given the times and who strapped for cash so many people are. I don't think it's right to expect things these days, because we do live in a completely different era.
Married the love of my life in April!!

My future mother in law paid. Her daughter ran off and got marriede and my mom isn't here so she saught me out to pay for it...it was important to her. I figured I'd pay for it myself but everyone's family is different.

My mommy paid for mine! She's far from rich and I wasn't expecting her to. I was so touched.

I understand and realize it may hurt, but it is true that it is her money and her choice. Yes, one would think a mother of all people, would be rushing to be involved and buy things but that's not always the case. I would talk to her. My mom surprised me only because I was engaged 10 years ago and she was going to pay for the wedding related costs, my dress, flowers, etc. We were on our own for the reception. Now she's not paying for anything except my dress. Well, that's what she told me and then later said she would give me $500 towards my dress so I will still have to make up the difference if the dress is over that and pay for alterations. She did say though that she is planning on giving us our down payment for a house and she thinks that would be better than paying for "rubber chicken" to eat. She is planning on giving us a few thousand dollars for our house. That does make sense I guess. She said as we get closer and there are things like the flowers, etc. she'll help with that, but we're primarily on our own. His parents said they'd give $1500-$2000 but his dad just asked him for $400 for a cruise that his dad and mom are going on so who knows. They just better have the money to pay for their trip to the wedding! : )

I bet in the end, your mom will surprise you. I hope so. Keep your head up!

My parents are also paying for everything.  A few years ago they saw a wedding at a resort and came home and told us that if we ever wanted to do a DW they'd pay for it.  We are super lucky, I know every family is different.  Two of my friends are paying for their whole weddings themselves.

My fiance paid for my dress. My parents did offer but they are already paying for 6 of us to go to Jamaica and the actual wedding. We are covering the costs of small details and extras.
