Who paid for your dress

Recommended Posts

I completely agree. Times have changed. My parents and one of my sisters live in Poland, my other sister lives in Germany with her husband. I live in the US. Nobody offered to pay for anything. Actually, I am paying for all the wedding expenses myself. His family is not paying although they can afford it. We both have been previously married but never had weddings.

I paid for my dress, but that was bc me and FI had been talking about really getting married and there was a tent sale with super cheap wedding dresses that I stumbled upon.  Neither of our parents have a lot of money, though, so it is all on us but that was the plan from the start.

I also wanted to note that with money comes a trade-off of decision-making power so then your mom or FMIL has a legitimate say in what you should wear.  By paying it yourself, you can make all of the decisions.

My mom is both mom&dad to me, and i had gone out before hand dress shopping with my man of honor and my mother in law..when i finally narrowed it down to 3-4 dresses that i loved i brought my mom down for the weekend.

her and I went out to the bridal store and i tried them on.....what she ended up doing was paying for my deposit which was 600.00 and then buying my reception dinner dress. My FI paid for the rest, he figured that this was kinda like a man figure (sounds weird) paying for the rest...i thought it was a great thing for him to do for me.

I would talk to your mom and see if there is a reason why...or if something is bothering her with the whole DW thing

My Mom (or my Parents more like) paid for my dress.  I wasn't expecting that but when the time came they were actually the ones PUSHING me to make a decision and get a dress.  I was very adamant that we wanted to do this on our own but looking back it was a nice gesture and I really appreciate the help.  It is also fun to know when I put my dress on that it is a gift from my parents!

That being said, you do give over some "decision making power" when you have someone else paying for the dress.  I am in LOVE with my dress but of the 2 I was deciding between I also picked my moms Favourite! It was important to me that she was included and that she liked it!

MY FI and I are paying for everything ourselves. Both of our parents were planning on contributing to our at home wedding, but when we decided on a destination we also decided we were doing it on our own. Now don't get me wrong, when I went to put the deposit down on my dress (which was $600) my mom had her credit card out and really wanted to pay for it.... I just explained to her that FI and I had decided we were going to pay for everything ourselves and although I appreciate the gesture, we wanted to do this our way.... took quite a bit of convincing, and now she's claiming to add the sum to our wedding present... very sweet but unnecessary lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
