Which would you choose Breezes Runaway Bay, Gran Bahia Principe, or Riu ochos rios

Recommended Posts

Well i'm not getting married at any of these resorts but I met my FI at Breezes Runaway bay. It was really nice when I was there a few years ago and they have since remodeled it and I heard it was really nice. FI use to work there. I say if you know that all your guest will be over 14 because they have a age limit no kids. I think this resort will be nice.

I'm getting married at Gran Bahia Principe next May :)

We choose it because we heard great reviews from people we know who had been there, and also because it's a relatively new resort (a tad less expensive) that doesn't do a lot of weddings, so it felt less like a "wedding factory". My travel agent also told us it was her favorite resort in Jamaica because it had a luxury feel, but was still lively and fun.

Good luck with your picking :) All are beautiful places. There are a few great reviews of Gran Bahia Principe on this forum as well by a few ladies who've gotten married there.

I have heard some really good things about Riu Ocho Rios. My future in-laws stayed there last year for vacation and they had a blast. They just kept talking about the great food, drinks, beaches, people and entertainment so that is one of the reasons we are considering it. But we can't make a decision so we are going for a sightseeing trip list September. When I get back I will be sure to post pictures up and write a review. Happy planning and good luck!

We are also staying at the Gran Bahia...it was highly recommended from our wedding planner and we chose it as it has something for everyone. One of the best things is the gazebo on the beach where you can get married...its secluded so you dont have people walking through your wedding or sunbathing around. Also, like tris said they only do so many weddings in a day.

Our quote is $1500 for May 2011 but we are hoping it will go down - you are allowed one price drop! This is also b/c I am a student and we dont have a lot of money.

Good luck with your choice!!

Ours is a small wedding of probably 20 guests...and we have a rather small budget (my fiance is a medical student, next year he'll be graduating but as a resident doctor pay is still low for a few years and I am a master's student. We don't have relatives who are giving us a wedding, we are doing it ourselves).
If you'd like to PM your e-mail address I can forward you all the information about wedding packages that I've gotten? The packages are really reasonable including most everything you need, (including a reception, food, etc). The cheapest is 1100 and the most expensive is 1500 if I'm not mistaken?

I chose Gran Bahia, it was cheaper then all the other hotels. I'm flying out of Edmonton, and we are doing a week at the Bahia and a week at Couples Ocho Rios as our honeymoon. All together both weeks and flights came to $8000, It was going to be $4000 for me and my Fiance including flight, then a week at couples was $4000 not including flights.

$1500 sounds so much cheaper though! I'm going to have to keep my eyes open in case the prices drop beacuse that would be great.

We are only having probably 10 people come. Nobody else wanted to go to Jamaica, so I'm forced into having a Canadian reception.

my sister was going to get married a few years ago in Mexico, the whole family was going, I choose Jamaica and NOBODY is coming, not even my sisters.

Anyways, we picked Gran Bahia beacuse it had cheaper packages hoping that more people would be able to afford to come. Didn't work out that way, but it looks like a beautiful resort!

For a group of 20, you can't go wrong with Breezes Runaway Bay. Our travel agent described it as the most "Jamaican" resort left in Jamaica.

We had a great time. The food and drinks were above average for an AI resort.

That being said, I've never been to the other places and they get good reviews too. I think Breezes probably has more of a party atmosphere than the others though, from everything I've read. I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
