Question on whether to register or not

Ok girls I need your help....ever since we came back and even before we left friends and family have asked if we've register. Well we didn't....we didn't think we should at the time becuase we didn't know if we would have an AHR when we got back or not. We still don't know...though I want one.

 

Anyways. I'm making a website with ALL the pictures that we have from Cabo to show everyone.

I went out last night and my friends told me that we should go register, (I told them that yesterday afternoon when Erik and I went to Costco we were going to buy some nice expensive cookware when Erik decided not to and his reason was that his mother had said that we might get some as a gift, I guess she had asked him what we wanted, that someone had asked her).

 

So should we register? and how do I go about letting people know that we have registered? I'm going to send an email with the link to everyone about the website (which is similar to Nicole's, thanks Nicole for the idea) :), should I add to the email that if anyone's interested that we registerd at such and such place? or should I put it at the end of the website? Or should we not do it at all.?

 

Help...Thanks ladies. Hope that made sense.

When you send the email with the link to the website, anyone who views your pics (which I would think would be EVERYONE!!), will the Registry information be visible as well? If so, then I think that is a good, subtle, way to show that you are registered without making it sound like your hinting for gifts. And make sure your family and close friends know so they can pass the word along if anyone asks.

hmmm...so are you suggesting I should put it in the website or write a quick note after the link info on the email about how we are registered?

I was thinking that the info would just be a part of the website.

However, you could also put something in the email like "Registry information also available on website." or something simple like that...

I would register, but not comment on where you are registered in the email. Create a page on your website with links to your registry, and people will find it. Also, word of mouth---- tell MIL and I'm sure she'll let everyone know where you're registered.

 

From what I've seen, the general rule is to basically never write down and send your registry information to people. Pass the info via word of mouth, and refer people to your website, where the information will be included.

 

I can say this from personal experience---- FSIL got married last month and she sent out written cards with their registry information, and it *really* came across like they just wanted presents. Even knowing them and knowing they intended it for convenience- it still came across (even to me) as their desire for presents more than anything else. So I would say keep the info off paper, and just put it on the website and pass the word by mouth...

I agree with the above - go ahead and register, but don't "announce" it. From what I've read in a couple etiquette books this is bad form. If people really want to get you a gift and you register somewhere mainstream (macys, C&B, WS, etc) people will find it.

I agree with Maria. I received a wedding invitation once that had a separate sheet saying where the couple was honeymooning, how much it would cost to do everything they wanted, and links to where we could help pay for it (tours, massages, dinners, etc.). I think those are known as honeymoon registries, but it really put us off. We barely knew them at that....if I'm paying for a vacation it's gonna be mine . . . LOL!

 

Put it on your website. My bm's sent enclosures with my shower invitiations which etiquette says is the only time you should mail anything about a registry.

 

Definitely register though. I was against it, my mom insisted that some people who may not know you well enough appreciate it. So far, most of our registry gifts have come from the people who give courtesy gifts but only know one of us (parent's friends). Close friends may choose to get you something outside of the registry anyway, but you'd be surprised at how many registry gifts you'll get just for having one.
