Is anyone buying their BM dresses??

Recommended Posts

I have 5 bridesmaids and I am buying 3 of their dresses. 3 of them are about my age (26) and either just out of law school or just bought a condo so I want to help them with the cost. The other two are younger (a cousin and FI's sister) so I figure that they can mooch off of their parents!

I'm buying one dress for a BM who is having some hard financial times right now. Ironically, she makes the most moeny out of all of us. But, she has the farthest to travel. I'm not telling the other BMs that I'm paying. Also, I chose a rather inexpensive dress $110 so I don't feel that bad about asking the other two to pay. The last wedding I was in the dress was $300 without alterations!

I wasn't going to buy them at first. I felt so guilty asking them to pay for something that they probably wouldn't wear again, then Monday I found these cute dresses on line for $36.50 each, so I bought them each a dress. (my MOH and BM).

Since my daughter is my flowergirl, I bought her dress as well. PLUS I bought them all flip flops that we are going to decorate.

So yes - I guess I bought them all their entire outfits! I didn't intend to... it just happened!

  • 4 weeks later...

I paid $150 towards each dress. 4 dresses all together.

Everyones situation is differrent. They are paying quite a bit of money to come to the wedding, and although they fought me on paying that much... the were very appreciative that i did. And they know that they may not get the most extravagant BM gifts now. wink.gif

I am buying mine! I feel that since they are traveling it is my duty. I have been in 5 weddings now and I have one coming up where I am expected to pay travel expenses and the dress, its a lot for someone elses wedding even if they are a good friend! I just figured that since I dont like doing it my friends wouldnt either.

I haven't quite decide whether I am or not...I am sort of letting my BM's pick whatever dresses they want since I'm not doing a "matching" bridal party, so I figured that way everyone can work with their own budgets. Some of my BM's are looking at really expensive Hugo Boss dresses, while others are looking more at BCBG...but I might just give everyone a set $$ amount for them to use whichever way they want.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
