Hi Cindy,

Everyone on here is right. If you want the Bahamas then go for it! No matter where you pick to get married, there will be people telling you it's too expensive and they can't attend. It's just the nature of a DW.

You only get to do this once, so if you want the Bahamas then you should have the Bahamas!

Thank you!! You're absolutely right! I wish my fiancé could also agree with me on this one. People have started brainwashing him telling him its too much money and he's been having second thoughts. I don't know what to do anymore. I just stopped planning until we figure something out. I hope it all works out at the end.

I had the same issues when I started planning with my Fiances family, we decided to have a reception at home as well for those who could not attend. We originally wanted to go to either St. Thomas or St. Lucia and changed our location to Punta Cana to make it a little more affordable for those who wanted to attend. We are shocked to see that in 3 Weeks we have had 30 people book and some who were worried about the cost. Like others have said those who are important wont miss your wedding and this is your day, do what you want to do! You will be shocked on who attends and if there not there Oh well, its about you not them!! Good Luck!!

Thank you!! I was telling my fiancé the same thing! As long as my immediate family and close friends are there, that's all that matters! He completely agreed with me and said he just wanted to make me happy! I just gotta find the right travel agent and get a good deal! Can't wait!! And i'm glad everything worked out for you!! cheesy.gif

Hi Cindy,

I had the same problem. Our families are huge and everyone had different opinions. Some of them didn't know how to handle the news and some were disappointed and said they wouldn't be able to make it right off the bat, even before they looked into everything (this was back in february) now most of them already booked their hotel rooms :) People are shocked at first because when they hear destination wedding all they see are dollar signs. My fiance and I live in California and all our family is on the east coast. I sure as heck wasn't going to try to plan a wedding on the east coast from california and the Bahamas was a lot less expensive for us. Once I made people realized that the Bahamas was an easier and shorter trip for them than California they started to turn around. I think if you give people enough time to book a trip and save they will not regret it. but just know that there will be people that cannot make it, but that goes with wherever you would've had your wedding. Of course you want everyone that is important to you to be there on your special day, but that is simply out of your control. The next time someone questions your ideas for anything having to do with your wedding make sure you remember it's only what YOU want. no regrets :) good luck! and congrats!

I'm getting married in Nassau too {because my FI lives there} I think you should have your wedding where you want - most people will complain initally, but break their necks to come - I heard a few say if it wasn't for the wedding they would never get to go to Bahamas in their life - if you guys need any info about vendors (other than on this great site) let me know - I'm down there quite often and can check some things out for you! Happy Planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
