I think that it's hard to give $ saving tips, because since this isn't an at-home wedding, your DIY options are limited, and so is your power at vendor-shopping. With this said, the #1 thing that I could have done to limit our budget and prevent from going way over would have been to go with a resort where everyone could book individually instead of having a room block with a minimum # of room paid in the contract. In the end we had to pay in full / in part to help friends fill our rooms (otherwise we still had to pay for the empty rooms). That was an extra 10K that we had not anticipated!

Our original budget for everything was 20K. In the end, we were at around 40K. It was a lot more than what we wanted to pay, but at least I got the wedding of my dreams and we're extremely happy with how things turned out.

Hi Skygirl here is thread that is similar that was helpful to me. It has the budget of brides before and after their wedding:

http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/f9/budget-933/

Here is another thread that may be useful with saving tips:

http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-minded-33804/

I hope those are useful. There are also a few other threads if you search but they are more destination specific as in the best place in Mexico to save and things like that. Another I found was: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-budget-56121/

Maybe it's just because I didn't want to face the actual reality of what we spent, but it is a lot more than what I had anticipated definitely! I envy those brides who stay within their total budgets of 10K or 15K or less and have money to spare for their AHR! I think we spent around at least 20-25K (which still might exclude some wedding related stuff i.e. our legal ceremony, engagement pics, boudoir pics, TTD) but I will have to do a breakdown and post it in the proper budget thread!

This is a really tough question! THere are so many factors that affect a budget, such as private receptions, number of guests, how many DIY projects you did, etc. To give you an idea, I had 7 guests, that's right, 7! I did not do a private reception or AHR and kept everything pretty basic with minimal extras. My total expense, including rings, the week trip, buying wedding party attire, etc was about 14K. If I went all out like I initially thought I was, I could have easily spent $25K lol. When I realized the actual expense of some things I made major cuts.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
