bringing food through security

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question but I haven't traveled in years and never internationally. confused.gif

I'm allergic to wheat and it's very difficult to eat out. While I know Sandals & Couples will not have a problem accomodating me, I'm not sure what I can bring with me through security at the airport. I want to bring some snacks to have on both flights because it's not easy to find stuff I can eat at the airport (and certainly not on the plane). We'll be traveling anywhere from 7-10 hours on each leg of the trip so I'll probably get hungry!

Are there any restrictions on bringing food through security? I know you can't bring drinks through, right?

my sister goes to school in Nevis and she brings all kind of food and snacks without any problems. She mostly does cans and packages but she has had friends bring stuff like cheese and things. Hope this helps. But overall as long as its not drinks you should be fine.

you can bring food as long as its not a liquid, gel, or cream.

for example: jar of peanut butter= NO, peanut butter sandwich= YES. (lame, i know.)

yogurt= NO, banana= YES. tub of frosting= NO, frosted cinnamon roll= YES.

also you are correct, no drinks allowed thru security; but you can buy something at a gift shop or restaurant once you pass security and bring it on the plane with you.

any liquids, gels or creams whether food or not, you are allowed ONE QUART-sized zip-loc style baggie filled with 3.4oz containers only. not 2 baggies, not 3.4oz containers with no baggie.

specific guidelines can be found at

TSA | Transportation Security Administration | 3-1-1 on Air Travel

ps im not a know it all, i work for an airline :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
