Sorority Traditions?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone on the forums who may be in a Greek organization has any experiences with this?

Maybe your organization has a tradition(s) you do for weddings within the sorority? I am a member of Alpha Sigma Tau and we do not have anything in place (ritual, etc)... But I was thinking if I have a few sorority sisters taking the trip, that I include them in some way?... Any feedback?

Thanks!

Theresa

Is there a way you can incorporate your house flower into your arrangements? For example, I was a Kappa Alpha Theta in college and our flower is the pansy. Or if you want to acknowledge them, maybe get them corsages with those flowers included?

I had three sorority sisters as bridesmaids and I did not do any sorority traditions. It was at least important thing for me and I felt that the wedding was about me and my husband, not about our greek organizations. That was just my perspective. Having our sorority sister and fraternity brothers in our wedding party was enough. :)

I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and like stated before, we usually sit the groom in a chair on the dance floor and surround him in a circle and sing our national hymn and vice versa for the fraternities, they sit the bride in the chair and sing or state their hymn/pledge. Then we turn the music on and start party walking together or stepping if that is part of your organization!

I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and our tradition is for the bride to sit in a chair and the other sorors surround her in a circle and sing our Sweetheart song. It only takes like 5 minutes to do it. My wedding colors are similar to my sorority colors except I added tangerine orange to the mix to spice it up since we will be in the carribbean. One of my line sisters is also one of my bridesmaids.

Hey Soror Quintina,

My fiance and I are both members of greek organizations.  We are planning on including both of our traditions.  I am really looking forward to being serenaded by both organizations.  This part of the reception will not take up too much time and I think it really adds something for your organizational members as they get a chance to feel apart of your big day.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
