Hi Everyone!!

An April 2011 bride here!!

Last month I got engaged to the most amazing man! (I'm sure we all say that right?! lol) He proposed May 8 literally in the middle of a run while I was all sweaty and in workout mode! lol We are now working on planning a DW. We have chosen to forego the traditional at home wedding mostly due to funds. Me being a young homewoowner and him just completing school (he had gone back as a mature student) we just can't justify spending near $15-$25K on one day! We have decided a DW is the best way to go for *US* and can't wait to proceed on our planned budget of only $5K.

April 9, 2011 will be our big day - hopefully at the Riu Negril in Jamaica! my parents are 10000% on board, but we're still trying to convince his parents that we'll be perfectly safe there next year. I'd say they're about 70% on board right now. (being Polish, they're not too thrilled that we're not going to do a traditional wedding.... and it's not helping that there are problems on the island right now either) Hopefully things get better on Jamaica soon and planning can proceed!

I've already learned a lot while browsing these forums over the past few days and can't wait to get to know some of you! :)

Welcome and congrats!

I know what you mean about convincing the parents. I'm from Ireland and my family expected the wedding there. My fiance is from the US and they wanted it in Boston. When we knew we couldn't please anyone we decided on a neutral destination, so Mexico is going to be our Switzerland! A lot of relatives are not too happy, but hey it's our day not ours! We are only engaged 2 months and I have already quickly discovered that I won't be able to keep everyone happy so make so you do what's best for you and your hubby to be! Congrats again and happy planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
