Travel Agent Concern

Hello,

I've been working with a very nice travel agent not connected to this site. The agency comes recommended from another wedding message forum. I've been looking into resorts for the past month or so. I am on a tight budget. I only want my guests to pay around 200 for two people per night. I also want a fair wedding package. Among other wishes in a resort. Everytime a mention intrest in a resort she comes back with a better suggestion. Which is always at a higher price point. I've been interested in Dreams resorts and currently love La Romana. The last time I mentioned a Dreams resort she said that Dreams has been giving more of a priority to larger wedding groups of over 25 people (my group will be under 20). That it's been very hard to secure a date with smaller groups because they are leaving the openings for the larger groups. I'm not sure if this is true or not. She suggested the two paradisus resorts. Which are beautiful but, the price is higher and the wedding packages and extras are more. I just don't know what to do. Do I push a resort she doesn't want to sell me? I'm afraid to tell her that I love DLR and want that resort regardless. Do I switch to a dreams specialist? I feel bad that she has worked with me. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Sara

I wouldn't feel bad AT ALL! This is YOUR wedding! You need to do exactly what it is that you want, regardless of what she is saying or implying. If you are really not comfortable, then switch TAs. There are so many out there, both good and bad. Sure, she's put some time in, but it's not like you have a contract or anything yet (I am assuming that!). It's up to her to find you those initial quotes. If they don't work out for you, no harm done.

We had some issues with my agent that were luckily resolved. She could've not cared one bit and left us in the dark on our own. When it comes right down to it, you need an agent who really cares and is going to do the work for you and yours guests.

You're the bride - remember, it's all about you! wink.gif Good luck!

i say switch now...i switched TA's and it was one of the best decisions I made. Go with one of the TA's on this site, they have sooo much experience with DWs and great relationships with the resorts.

We're getting married at Dreams Cancun and TA Jill has been great!

Good luck

I agree with the above posters. I have switched TAs as I just was not getting a good vibe from the first TA. The second one I contacted was much more knowledgeable about flights (as my guests are coming from multiple locations across Canada), etc.

You have to remember this is business. You are not good friends with your TA...they are not coming over to watch TV with you. If you are not getting what you want, find another. :)

Remember that a travel agent is just that.... YOUR agent, acting on YOUR behalf with the hotels and / or tour operators. They should have your best interest at heart, and work for you to find the resort that is not maybe the one they would pick for themselves, but the one that is just right for you! Keep at it, and best of luck!

I would switch TAs. I used TA Dina from this forum and got married at DLR. I had no problems with booking my wedding with the hotel and we only had 14 ppl. I was also told if another wedding booked on my day I would have first choice of ceremony and reception as I booked first.

LOL! So true and what a great way to relate! I sometimes feel guilty about changing service providers and from now I'll just say to myself -- they are not my friends ... we will not be watching Grey's Anatomy together and comparing McDreamy and McSteamy ... they are not my friends ....

Hi CherryCoke. My first TA had a very nice website and great voicemail music but she only gave me one choice: RIU. I liked her but I like my current TA a lot better...about a thousand times better. She priced out about a dozen resort packages for me at different price levels and let me do the choosing. I'm sure you'll find another TA who can give you the level of service that you need. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
