Timeline Etiquette Question

Recommended Posts

So I am having a wedding about 13 hours from home in December. The discount on our room block ends in October. I have all the information in the invitations about the block, but I don't want to send the invitations too early. How early is too early? Since it's not out of state I don't want to go overboard early, but don't want people to miss the discount block.

Also, I thought about sending a brochure out, but would that be weird before the invitations come?

Thanks ladies!

Personally,

I would send out the invites 3 months prior to the block discount expiring. I don't think it's ever TOO early. Some people like to book their vacation with plenty of time so they don't stress last minute. 3 months will give people plenty of time to take advantage of the discount or shop around for a competitive price.

As far as the brochure goes, I think it depends on what kind of brochure it is.

Me and my FI are putting together a "brochure" that's more of like a "Thank you for booking, this is what you have to look forward to" kind of packet. If this is what you are doing, I would send them out to your guest about a month before your wedding. I think by doing so, you'll remind your guests that the big day is fast approaching and it will get them excited about going.

Hope this helps ya.

I sent my invitations out 7 months before the wedding. We sent them at the end of March/beginning of April for our 10/22/10 wedding. We didn't do STDs and I wanted people to have plenty of time to save money if they need too and book early if they wanted to get discounts.

I don't think it is ever too early with a DW. I think you could send out your invites out, then maybe do the brochure.

We sent out save the dates 9 months before the wedding with the wedding date, location, and our wedding website address. We included hotel block information, things to do in the area, flight info etc. on the our website. If you have a wedding website, I'd put any relevant hotel information there ASAP.

Since our wedding didn't involve international travel (sounds like yours doesn't either) we decided to send out invites 3 months in advance. For those who hadn't already booked their hotel room based on the website information, this gave them about a month a half to book their room before the block rate expired.

I would send out some type of information regarding the wedding- like a save the date, with some information about how travel would be needed and the room block info as soon as possible. People are busy and if they are like us, we have vacations lined up all the time. I think good notice would make it easier for people to plan around your wedding.

Then I would send out invites a few months prior like any standard wedding. About two weeks before our trip I sent out an email with a brochure attached for all the fun things to do, timeline, reminders, etc.

It's never too early to inform people, especially if travel is involved. 13 hours away is still kinda far and would require flights- unless you love driving! Still considered a DW in my book!

Def send out a Save the Date or set up a website and send that info out to people so they can start planning.

And I heart Sun Valley! We used to ski Tamarack when it was open, but went to Sun Valley when it closed. What a gorgeous location for a wedding!!!

Since yours isn't that far away but you have a discount that expires in Oct I would send it like mid July - beginning of August, that should be enough time for people. I'm sending my invites out in Oct. but those who want to go have to RSVP by Feb. 14.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
