Wedding at the Royal Cancun April 20, 2010 Del Sol pictures !!!

Valerie,

Your photos are amazing! I love your dress... you looked like a mermaid... how practical! wink.gif

Your cake design was very nice. It looked like it had crisp cut-out lines and the fondant looked smoothed out too from the pictures but I noticed you gave the cake rating a 3/10 for its bland taste. So now you got my attention!

Was this an in-house cake? What flavor did you choose? Was this the cake that was included in your free wedding package? Did the resort cut and serve the cake to your guests? Were you able to order a cake of the right size for your intimate guest party or did they just give you a really big cake???

I have several reasons to be concerned about the cake:

  1. Presentation / Size: I have seen a photo of a cake that was served at one of their weddings last June at the Royal in Cancun and it was ordered to serve 50 guests. The bride said it looked like it could feed 200 people!!! Not only that but the fondant was not smooth. It had some rather large wrinkles and this was the 1st thing I noticed in her pics... Ouch!
  2. Service: The bride also told me that as soon as she cut into the cake, it disappeared and no one got to eat her cake! They told her that as a Mexican tradition, the couple cuts and serves their guests and it is not the responsibility of the kitchen!
  3. Taste: Bland you say? I have chosen to go with vanilla sponge and vanilla filling. When I did my site inspection, the WC said that vanilla was the most popular of them all. What flavor did you have?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
