AmyandRich Dreams Tulum Review

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! My husband and I were married on May 7, 2010 at Dreams Tulum. Here is the recap:

-I'm not going to get into the airport and transfer service to get there... everything went smooth....

- Check In: We reserved a beahfront room. When we checked in, we were told that none were available until the following day. They put us in a honeymoon suite, which was really nice. We moved to the beach front room the next day as I really wanted it!! It was close to the ceremony site. We were in Room 1614... the room was really pool front, with the beach behind the pool, but still nice. The noise level was pretty low for being right next to the pool.

- Wedding Coordinator: Natalia She was great. We met with her on day 2. She took us to a quiet area in the lobby and we went over all of our details. She had copies of my previous emails already printed out. I made last minute changes and she didn't blink an eye. I highly recomend PICTURES!!! If you want certain colors in your bouquet, bring a sample... things can get lost in translation! If you want your reception set up a certain way, bring pictures... I brought a photo AND drew a diagram for her!!

- Wedding Package: Ultimate (we had 16 guests so this worked well)

-Extras:

Bows on the chairs. Natalia knew in advance via email that I wanted fuschia bows. She had a fabric swatch at our meeting.

Black runner for reception table. Natalia had a sample swatch of a sheer blck fabric. I asked her for an opaque black... not a problem.

Flower petals: I bought 12 bags of petals and had the resort carpet them on our reception table on the back table runner... looked AWESOME!!

2 Extra flower arangements. The package came with one centerpiece for the receptions.... I used 1 long table and added the 2 extra flowers and 6 candle holders that I brought myself.

Guitarist. We had him play during our reception...more later

Photos - we upgraded to the 100 photo package. More later.

Extra boutinere

Sound System for the Ceremony

Total, including package: $3250

Natalia presented us with an itemized bill before we paid. Everything was correct. TIP: One month prior, I sent Natalia an email in which I itemized all of our costs, and added the 11% tax. We reviewed this together via email and came to an understanding. I believe this really help billing accuracy!!

Day before Wedding: We took our guests on a sailing/snorkeling trip. We charted a private excursion through FatCat. We had a great crew and a GREAT time!!

Wedding Day... May 7th!!

9 am: 3 of us girls went to the spa for massages. We scheduled these via email about 2 months prior. The spa was really nice, really relaxing. It was an Awesome way to begin the day! I did tell my massuese that I was having my hair done later and asked her to please keep any oils away from my hair. She did a good job.

12 pm: 4 of us were having hair and make up done.. the first appointment was my sister and law at noon. I got sandwhichs from the Coco Cafe for the two of us and sat with her at the salon while she got started.

1pm: My hair appointment. I brought a photo of what I wanted and she got pretty close! I went with an up-do. I used a ribbon and flowers instead of a veil.

2Pm: The stylist did my make up. I asked for "hollywood" and got bridal. I did not have a photo... did not get what I wanted. I found a Glamour magazine in the sitting area with a photo I liked.. I brought it back to the stylist and she did her thing... I was sooo happy with the results!! Again... bring PHOTOS.

I paid for Mimosas and chocolate fruit and cheese platter fro everyone in our party. I was in the stylist chair when they were brought so the chocolate was hardened by the time I got to it. I chowed down anyway... I did not want to pass out walking down the aisle!!

4PM: In my room... fidgeting! My dress had been delivered and was hanging up. I had folded my dress up and crammed it into a carry on to get it down there. The resort picked it up the day before to steam it.. Came out beautifully. (On the other side of the resort... We took advantage of the free groom's room the night before.. we gave it to my brother and his girfriend to use as they had brought kids with them. The resort delivered my husbands suit to this room.. which the resort only let him have until 2PM. The suit was locked in a room that we had no key to. Rich tracked down Natalia who fixed everything.)

4:30PM: My Mom came to my room to help me into my dress. Her and my Dad sat with me until Natalia came to get me. My bouquet was delivered... everything I wanted!!

4:45PM - Photographer (Filemon) came to the room to snap a few pics

5Pm: Natalia called the room... our minister was in a car accident and would not be coming! She said they were finding someone else to officiate.

5:30PM - Natalia came to the room and escorted me and my parents to the beach ceremony site. We had rented the sound system. The resort has a collection of classical/traditional music that they can play while guests are seated. I walked down the aisle to Canon in D.

The Ceremony: I believe another wedding cordinator drew the short straw!! She started by stating that we were "Gathered here today to join Amy and Aaron"... Aaron?! She then called my husband "Adam"... By the end, she got his name right. I found it all kinda humorous.. Rich wasn't as amused!

After the ceremony... group photos and Mr & Mrs photos. We paid for an upgraded package which got us picture on the beach, around the resort and during cocktail hours.

More to come....

For brides worried about the resort photographer... Don't!! I LOVED the photos! We purchased the disk containing all 300 photos because we could not narrow it down to 100!!

Continuing on........

7PM: Cocktail hour. Lobby Terrace. We chose this location because of: 1. Close to a bar. 2. The lobby bar has a/c... wanted that incase it was too hot. Rich and I showed up for the last 15 minutes. We had a few more group photos and some photos with the Marriachi band. The band sounded nice. Guests seemed to like it.

8Pm: Dinner

We originally had planned for our dinner to be at the Dolphin pool... Another wedding had paid for the SeaSide Grill and had booked a DJ. This resteraunt is only about 20 feet from the dolphin pool... I did not want their wedding to over power mine so Rich and I chose the beach. Only the far side of the Relax Pool is a small grove of palm trees on the sand.... it felt like we were on our own island!! It was romantic, intimate.... AWESOME!

Lighting was good enough... We could see just fine. The breeze did not disturb any of the petals on the table. We had no issue with mosquites or anything else.

We went with the Golden menu... Bruschetta, citrus salad, surf and turf, chocolate cake and wedding cake! We made no special requests and were happy with everything. The wedding cake was Three milks, strawberry filling... Really good!!

We hired the guitarist to play while we ate. He was wonderful. He played Mexican ballads, dance songs and a great rendition of "What a Wonderful World". We would get up and dance between courses... he really set a beautiful tone to the dinner. One of the best investments we made.

Afterwards: A few of us went dancing at the discotec... not a bad little club!

Enough for now.... I will try to remeber more details and add them later.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
