My fiance and I booked a four person band for the reception (we're getting married on the Destiny in April 2011).

Has anyone else booked a band? I'm wondering when we'll find out what kind of band it is... and if we can communicate with them to request songs...

    Excited!

I'm getting married on the Carnival Dream on April 30th, 2011! We just booked the wedding itself last week...and are contemplating booking the DJ or the band.  I'm wondering the same thing...what sort of music does the band play?  If or can choose typical Reggae band (Lido deck style) or the band that plays cover songs we'd prefer that over a DJ...but if they play classical sort of music, we'd have to opt for the DJ.  Let me know if you get any answers?  Did you question Carnival before you booked?

I haven't heard from anyone else who booked a band- either on this site or on Cruise Critic.  Carnival said it'll be whichever 4-person band they have on the ship at the moment, so it could be any kind of music.  We're fine with the decision, any cruise band is going to be entertaining!  And we love all live music.  It just means that we're going to bring a CD with our first dance song and mother/son/father/daughter songs, JUST IN CASE the band ends up not knowing any good slow dance songs.

I also don't think that Carnival ships have classical bands...?

Good luck!  I'm sure whichever you pick, DJ or band, it will be a good decision!

Thanks for your quick response!  I was thinking that would probably be the answer that Carnival would give you (that it would be dependent upon which musicians are available on the ship).  I'm sure you're right...that whatever they play will be good!

Just submitted the DJ entertainment request (decided to go the safe bet...not to mention cheaper option).  They wouldn't tell me in advance if anyone had booked the DJ or not for that date?  I suppose if it's already taken (from what I gather only one person can have their reception in the disco on any given embarkation day?) I'll be going with the band.

I think a DJ is a great choice!  That's weird they won't tell you if anyone else has booked him?  I hope you got him first!
