El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies, I just booked my wedding for May 16, 2015 at EDR. Has anyone had a larger guest list? I would love to have the reception at Tucanes but I am not sure what the maximum amount of people we can have there. I think we will have around 60-70 people.

Any advice on planning at wedding at EDR? Thank you!

Congrats! And happy planning! Best advice is to start at the beginning of this thread and read read read! I found that reading the posts and answers from past brides gave me more information than I could ever get through the WC in Miami or online searching! This forum will be your best asset in planning your wedding!

Welcome and best wishes on planning your wedding! Try reading the Official EDR thread. It has lots of helpful tips and advice. It also helps to read wedding reviews to see how things flow and get ideas. Of course, if you have any questions, just ask!

Hello All!  I am getting married November 16, 2014.  I am having my wedding at Gazebo 55, then a cocktail hour at Gazebo 55 followed by a reception at Tucanes.  How much lighting does the Tucanes have?  Is it necessary to have lanterns?  So far I ordered floating candles for the pool and 6 poles to be wrapped in Christmas lights.  Are the Christmas lights a necessity?  My WC hasn't been much of a help in deciding on decor for my events.

Hi @@NickiLynn1116 - congrats on your wedding!! There is plenty of lighting at Tucanes - you don't "need" lanterns, etc. they are really nice accents, but not at all necessary. I do wish we had done the floating candles for the pool - that would have been so beautiful (the pool itself is just dark at night, not lit up). My gallery has photos of Tucanes from my wedding, it should give you an idea of the lighting and options for decorating. We can help too!!! Just let me know what questions you have.

Hi @@mkg51615 ! Tucanes will hold 75 for a plated dinner. here's the post in the official thread that lists out all of the venues and the capacity for various set ups. There's tons of additional information in that thread as well. I have two key pieces of advice for DW brides: The WCs will take forever to respond, and it will be a frustrating process. BUT - it will all be taken care of when you get onsite! the onsite WC are magic and will make your day perfect. 2nd - don't "over do" all of the decorating and frills. It doesn't have to be a pinterest perfect wedding, and the site is so beautiful it doesn't need a ton of embellishment.

Let me know if I can be of any help!!

Hi again ladies!!  I just spoke with my wedding coordinator and asked her about booking hair and makeup.  I have 5 bridesmaids and 4 family members plus myself to get ready (hair and makeup).  She stated that since I am on the Casitas side that I can not get ready on the Royale side and those on the Royale side can not get ready at the Casitas.  Has anyone ran into this issue?  I did not envision my wedding day getting ready alone. All of my family and friends are staying on the Royale side.   If this is the case can anyone recommend any outside salons in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area?

@@NickiLynn1116 - I wonder if they are saying that because they can't accommodate 10 of you in one or the other - that would be my guess!!!

We stayed at the Royale side for our anniversary and were able to book the Casitas spa. Almost all of the brides I've talked to have used the Casitas spa, regardless of where they (and their bridal party) are staying.

I'd push back on your WC. You may still need to split up due to the number you have in your party to get ready. As I said previously, Casitas only has 3 hair/make up chairs in their salon, and I would guess the Royale spa is the same.

Another option may be to ask if the stylists can come to a couple of adjacent rooms to do hair/make up, vs. trying to fit you all in at the spa. I would suggest that to your WC, and indicate that with 10 people to get ready, it's a lot of money you will be spending at the spa. And they really need to accommodate you one way or the other, without all of your party & family getting ready separately from you.

@@AllieH Thank you for this information.  I will try to chat with her again.  Because she told me that since I am not staying on the Royale side that I would have to get ready on the Casitas side.  And any guests staying on the Royale side had to get ready at that spa.  So frustrating...

Nicki, I have stayed on both sides, and you and your guests are welcome everywhere on the Royale and Casitas sides. The exception is the Royale guests are not allowed to use the lounge chairs and beach beds on the Casitas side.

The spa even asks usually where you would like your appointment to be. So I don't believe what the WC is telling you to be correct.

Hi Ladies!

This thread is great! I’ve already booked my wedding date for April 2015, but haven’t planned anything so am going to the BDR in November. I just found out today that they wouldn’t let me have the $500 credit because the wedding is already booked. Has anyone fought this? The WC said this is a new policy. Did you guys talk about to the on-site WC about the decorations and stuff during the BDR for lesser pricing (like is it really worth us going to)? I really don’t want to pay the $5/person that is listed on my contact to bring in outside decorations especially if we have a lot of guests.

Also, it’s crazy that the Wi-Fi is $75 per person (for the week). I’ve never stayed at a resort that charged for Wi-Fi. Is it pretty reliable or spotty? Have you guys shared one log in with all of the wedding party?

In the summer posts I read that some of the brides received a free 2-hour cocktail party? I haven’t heard of anything like that. My FI and I and our guests are staying at EDR while the actual wedding is at the new part of the resort, Generations Riviera Maya (FI’s brother’s have kids). Maybe that’s why? Any details I should ask about?

My TA just told us that the 7-night premium room we have to book (ocean front junior suite) isn’t available so we are going to have to book a tier up from that. Has anyone else had this problem?

Honestly after all this I’m starting to have second thoughts and it’s only the beginning! Thanks for your comments!

So is your TA saying that there are no standard rooms left available at all for your guests? That's insane if you haven't gotten your room block/group package contract yet and they are already sold out in some of the lower room levels.

We were at BDR in June and were explicitly told at the BDR by the head cheese that ALL brides get the $500 even if they were previously booked. Your TA should have record of that from your original booking.,, if she doesn't- still push.

Depending on your TA and whether they are GI certified etc you will be privy to a variety of bonuses- but everyone is privy to the ones that are on the website now/ go look at them and make sure you know the qualifiers etc.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
