El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

BTW - one thing you ladies should all watch out for is the weekly newsletter that they have at some of the bars. I was so busy running around all week that I didn't even look at one until my last day and I almost missed it! But they have wedding announcements in there with your name and your groom's name and a congratulatory message. It is such a nice keepsake and made it even more personal for me =) No one told me about it so I'm glad I happened to see one!

Try not to stress too much over your choices for reception, ceremony, etc...every single option is breathaking and you won't regret your decisions no matter what you choose. Getting married at EDR was THE best decision I made and it was a completely gorgeous and unforgettable time! Of course I stressed out about every decision I made but there's nothing I would have changed =)

They offered a grooms room to us, but we used a groomsman's casita. They still delivered appetizers to the room, plus room service is available ;) the guys all basically met there and hung out by the pool. I had a girlfriend take some great pics for me. Worked out perfectly! The problem with the grooms room that was offered was it was a garden villa room far from the pool or beach. Boring for them! And he would have to make sure all personal items were removed and taken back to their rooms B4 the ceremony, so I didn't think that was very convienant. The girls and I had hair and make up done at the spa then walked back to our casita to dress. There we had champagne and appetizers waiting for us and a girlfriend did pictures for us as well. We had our photographer just meet us at Gazebo 55 and start pictures there. A decorated golf cart pick up me and my two bridesmaids. We called for a shuttle about 20 min prior to wanting to leave for the ceremony spot to take the other girls. It worked out fine... There are always shuttles running. But the WC really will try hard to accommodate or work out a plan. The WC that we email back & forth with for months may not be the WC you will have that day ;)

The Beach Bar is a favorite spot for us! It is a quieter bar on the beach in the casita section with lounge furniture. Also... You could use the martini bar or there is a little known new very nice bar in the casita section above the new D'Italia restaurant that is beautiful and overlooks the beach! Both have AC. There are several places your guests can hang out so, no worries! Some of those little details we decided on after we got there and made announcements at our welcome dinner.

Our wedding day at EDR was amazing! I highly suggest when you wake up that morning have a quite hour or two with your groom & room service breakfast! Make sure everything u need is done or organized the night before and just relax and enjoy the moment & day! It will be an over whelmingly happy day that goes by so fast! Our entire day was 14 1/2 hours of wedding fun from the time we left the room that morning going our separate ways, til we returned that night to a beautifully decorated room with more champagne and appetizers! I wore my dress from 2pm til 2am! So fun!

Also, a non-wedding related question, does anyone know if they play music at any of the pools during the day? Perhaps at the main pool? If not, I was considering bringing a BOSE portable player for ipods for our guests to play some music. I would assume they won't let us do that, but I'm curious if anyone else has tried and maybe succeeded?

About beach bar as a hang out between ceremony and reception...I'm guessing you mean the bar at Jo Jo's? It would be a great place to get drinks and there are lots of couches and bar stools there. Plus it is pretty central and on a main path. Both big pools, fuentes and la isla have music and games going on at different parts of the day(all the other pools are quiet!) The resort staff put on beach volleyball games, archery competitions, pool water balloon fights and lots of fun games, our guests loved them! We also had a little i pod player and used it at the beach and pools when our group was together and we just made sure we weren't bothering other resort guests.

I just got confirmation from my WC that the Groom will have a room on the wedding day from 10am-4pm to get ready in and it is stocked with a selection of beverages and "gourmet bites".

I almost wish it was the other way around, so that all my BMs and I wouldnt be getting ready in the room I will be staying in all week long! I will feel like I need to "tidy up" the day before the wedding, so that 5 girls can get ready at once! Also, we are staying in a Casitas and I think that Gazebo 55 is on the opposite side of the resort i.e. a 20 minute walk in the heat. I heard that they will provide transportation for the bride and one other person, but that the rest of the wedding party is on there own. Has anyone else heard this?

I don't know - Valeria just said "Bach Bar" she pointed it out to me on the map. It does look like it's right by JoJos. Cool - that sounds like fun! It is central, so that is nice. Thanks!!

For whomever has traveled there before - can we tip in US dollars at the resort, or do we need to change our currency when we get there? What about in Playa or Cancun (if anyone went out there), can you pay for things (drinks, food, souvenirs) with US cash, or no? Can anyone give me an idea of average or appropriate tips for waiters, bartenders, room service, etc.? Also, are there safes in the rooms for us to leave valuables and cash? If so, did everyone have a good experience using them?

Thanks :)

Another question - How strict is the dress code at the restaurants for dinner? No jeans, right? Can we wear flip flop sandals if they are paired with dresses? What about the guys? Anything else you encountered that would be good to tell our guests?

    • Sorry you had to deal with this I hoped it worked out. It seems to be every few months a new store will be in the  'if' stage and to the 'when' stage.  Big businesses like this don't notify the employees or customers before they close down...that would cause even more losses.  One day there are signs on the door and the business is done.  And lots of people (employees and customers...not to mention the creditors that they owe millions to) get screwed immediately with little help to be found anywhere.  Look at alfred angelo, although they had less retail stores than David's Bridal, they may have had more sales than them as a company.  They were the largest manufacturer of dresses and were carried by thousands of independent stores across the world (not just the 60+ branded stores they had).  If you google search Davids Bridal going bankrupt, they are listed on all the sites that post retail stores on life support.  They have more debt than they will be able to service in 2019 and the only question right now is if they'll make it that far.  Once the debt comes due, it's almost a 100% certainty that the company will be done.  But it's also more probable than not that the bankruptcy will happen much sooner than that.  The argument about them getting a new line or how big they are isn't a good argument if you look at the history of how these normally happen.  Alfred Angelo had a brand new line of dresses that never even hit the stores but were made overseas already...those all made their first appearances at the liquidation auctions.  I'm not trying to scare anyone here, but just trying to make sure that people understand that when a company gets to this point, it's definitely a roll of the dice if you are ordering something that you can't take home today.  How much of a risk?  That's hard to say, but I am extremely confident that the pain felt when alfred angelo closed 61 stores will be even greater when Davids Bridal closes 300+ stores…and when there are other great discount dress stores out there like Bridepower or Vows Bridal Outlet on the East Coast or Brilliant Bridal in the West (and plenty of others as well), I don’t think I would personally recommend any of my friends to take that risk!  But that’s just me:)
    • Hello all!! I'm planning to get married next week. I'm working in an MNC and I'm gonna marry my colleague who is in my company. It's been ten months since we have started our relationship. He used to support in all my difficulties and used to help me in my work. Always he used to tell me about my smile. He says that I have a very good smile and he loves it. Recently I lost my front tooth after an accident and it resulted in a bad look for me. He told me that I lost my beautiful smile. I was totally disappointed and thought of finding a solution. I heard about dental dentures and took an appointment at a clinic in Scarborough. Will dentures affect my speech? What was your experience of getting dentures?
    • Go for the third one. It is gorgeous and you will look stunning in that. I'm sure you will be noticed by other people. Go for it.
    • I would suggest the long one. You will look stunning in that. It is simple and elegant.
    • Both the gown are awesome and I'm sure you will look gorgeous in both. But I would suggest the first one. Go for it and Congratulations for your marriage.
