I didn't even think about negotiating things for the wedding. Flowers, runner, etc. Has that worked? Do you talk to Lomas Travel (I am also dealing with Valeria), or the coordinator when I get to the resort. We weren't going to do a private reception there b/c we are having a party when we get back as well. I guess I am looking for advice, ideas, experiences, etc. This website is great and I really should look at it more! :)
We'll be there on the 11th, and getting married on the 15th! Maybe we'll see you there! I just finally picked the menu for the free wedding dinner, and am working on sending Valeria info about what I want the flowers to look like. I haven't gotten to the decorations yet, but I know there is a TON of great info on here on how to save some money along the way! I don't think we're going to do anything private, as that really would cost a lot. I think we may do a champagne toast after our ceremony, and let the parents and MOH/BM do speeches at that point. We'll see... It's starting to come up quickly, so I guess I'd better get moving!

Valerie is a difficult lady to get in touch with, I agree. She usually responds to my wedding planner back home pretty quickly. We are getting married in January of 2011 I'm nervous that I will be having this much trouble getting in touch with her closer to the wedding date. That is a good idea to have the bouquets as the center pieces too. We are having a private event by the pool with about 40 guests so I was thinking maybe not to have center pieces. Seems like all the extras are really starting to add up. We need to add more chairs as well with ribbons and at 7 a piece it can get costly. Any advice as well I would love to hear as well.

I am getting married at El Dorado Maroma but Valeria is also my coordinator. So far, she has been great, my wedding is on Oct 2010. I asked her if I decide to bring my own decorations/flowers (i.e. bring my own satin bouquet holders which I can get online at $5 versus paying their $15 a piece, or bringing Real Touch flowers on my own versus buying them through her). She said no problem but there is a $75 "service" fee. I guess this is their way to make money, but when I did the math, it is still cheaper to bring my own stuff and pay the $75! Any thoughts on this? As of today, I actually want real bouquets which I may re-use as centerpieces but may bring my own chair sashes and bouquet satin ribbon holders...

Good ideas ladies! I've been thinking about doing fake flowers, but I didn't know about the service fee for bringing my own decorations. I still haven't heard from Valeria, but I guess she is going down her list of things to do!

The extras definitely add up quickly! We are doing the basic chairs and having to add additional ones for the ceremony. The chairs look nice either way, so I felt good just keeping them plain.

We are doing the private reception and we are still discussing decorations. Not sure, if I will just do the votives or bring some of my own stuff.

Hi Ladies! I am getting married on May 7, 2010 at the EDR and just sent Valeria a list of all the extras (and yes, they definately add up)! She is charging us $150 set up fee because we are bringing our own decorations and centrepieces for the private reception that we are doing. It is still cheaper than renting stuff from them. We are bringing our own flowers (real touch) for our bouquets! If you guys have any questions, I might be able to answer some of them as I have been working with Valeria for quite a while now!! AllisonMPLS - I will see you there! We are leaving on the 12th!

Hi Girls,

For those of you who had the Mexican Donkey Cocktail Party by Tucanes, how many appetizers did you pick from the menu? Carolina is telling me I picked way too many and is hinting that I don't need to do my free dinner at El Cocotal the same night. I just can't see how that is possible. Anyone who has had the cocktail party and then went to dinner at El Cocotal....could you please help me make sense of this! :) Thank you!

mexican cocktail party -6:00-7:30

dinner at el cocotal (no dessert)-7:30-9

sweet party/dancing-9-11

please help :) Thanks! Lauren

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
